Dissensus Raw: The Compilation - A Thread

Citizens of the federal republic of dissensus.com I hereby declare the first inaugural (thusfar unnamed) Dissensus Compilation a Go. We are now officially Up in this Bitch 🍾

The murky pool of partly tapped, and in some cases, tapped talent on this semi-mythic board, founded by several esteemed bloggers of yore, has collectively sat stagnant for too long. (Spring is here and the heat won't mix well) It is time to stand up among the overwhelming swathe of slightly more internet savvy youth, who know much more about self promotion than we ever did, and be heard I say! It's time to take what is rightly ours - A quick skim through on a handful of pasty hipster's iTunes before the inevitable dissipation down into the nether regions of a shuffled playlist.

A glory worth fighting for if there ever was one 🌎

The idea is thus: A musical and creative audio compilation based around a theme which will be agreed on collectively and then used as a launch pad for inspiration. Ideally, as many people as possible chip in ideas for the next day or two and then we discuss the direction, the title etc, and then get going. It's ok to use work that already exists if you think it really works with the theme, but more honor will be awarded to purpose made pieces.

So far we've got, in order of appearance:

@Mr. Tea
@mixed_biscuits
@wektor
@boxedjoy
@woops
@IdleRich
@yyaldrin
@Arthur Brick
@bassbeyondreason
@linebaugh
@gremino
@bunnyhausen
@PeteUM
@nochexxx

with a few mystery guests yet to be announced.

Collaborations are welcome. Due to the roster size, one track per project will be enough, but you are more than welcome to submit several tracks and then we can all vote for which one works best.

Anyone who is not able to contribute anything musical is encouraged to come along for the ride and offer what they may.

That's it fer now, ya buncha turkeys!

A theme suggested by @wektor

(in my head) I stumbled upon an idea of arranged sounds related around a general mood of distance and awkward restraint,
first gathering of summer 2021 kind of thing

Everyone should feel free to come up with more suggestions or additions. But, if we get nothing better than this by Friday then I say we go with it. A great theme for the times and wide open for interpretation.

P.S. Genre themes are better avoided to give everyone enough freedom to do what they do best. Best foot forward, folks!

P.P.S. All waltztek submissions to be judged by the venerable @mixed_biscuits

By the end of the week, we should have everything in order inc. the theme, who's in & how long everyone thinks they need. After that, we begin.

The rough deadline is no later than the end of May. 1 month should be enough for everyone even if you have a busy schedule. Also, it gives everyone time to put some real work into making something that will make the board proud :cool: But if everyone finishes before that, even better. Then, we figure out what to do next. Whether release them as is or send them for mastering or something else. User @soul_pill has stated they can do mastering.

It's been suggested that we show our works in progress as we go to hear what everyone is doing so that tweaks can be made in the direction of forging a cohesive overall sound with regard to both style and mixing. It's worth discussing this further. It might prove a challenge, but maybe a good one? Sound off in the comments.

Now that i did more or less catch up here on Diss -
i would be happy to sling in a mid summer's
solstice Replicants Night soundscape loops or two, set some time around 2040.

Busy and a bit stressed but it seems a good, possibly one off chance
and you guys have been doing the pre prod leg werk ( almost daily ) ...
Thanks for asking

Only a few weeks later than the original deadline. 20th and 21st of June in the southern and northern hemispheres. What do you lot reckon?

Mr. Tea

Let's Talk About Ceps
I remember once playing a "Who wants to be a millionaire" quiz machine in a pub, or watching a mate play, and whoever had set the questions had obviously had some fun with the "joke" answers - you know, how out of the four possible answers, there's the right one, then the two wrong-but-plausible ones, then the 'other' one. Well there was a question that went something like "What style of music is John Coltrane associated with?", and the options were "jazz", "rock", "reggae", and "ambient death jungle".

AMBIENT DEATH JUNGLE.
