Beast of Burden

Radio documentary about Simple Minds broadcast in 1989. Insight into how one band can go from quite interesting (Reel to Reel Cacophany) to almost magnificent (Empires and Dance, Sister Feelings Call, New Gold Dream) to become a complete abomination in the space of a decade. 1977-1989. Fucking hell! That space of time was an entire pop AGE then. 2003 (or whatever) could be yesterday.

I hardly ever like Dutch rap but I have been playing this a lot for the last couple of weeks. It's really good.

Edit: same goes for this one btw:

really loving the sound of this, like a dubbed up house track...i don't know, maybe moodymann-meets-rhythm & sound or something.

Azealia Banks-esque in terms of an American rapping over UK dance music; in this case deep tech.

I've never listened to anything on the Sacred Bones label but picked up two things this weekend that i really like:

- Blanck Mass "Dumb Flesh", grinding electronic/guitars from one of the Fuck Buttons guys (http://www.sacredbonesrecords.com/collections/releases/products/sbr136-blanck-mass-dumb-flesh) and

- Follakzoid "III", four long repetitive psych jams from Chile with tweaked synths by Atom TM (http://www.sacredbonesrecords.com/products/sbr128-follakzoid-iii)

It's nice to take a break from dance music once in a while and get your head blown off.

Also picked up the Vilod (Villalobos/Loderbauer) "Safe in Harbour" album on Perlon and I can't tell at this point if Ricardo is just goofing on his listeners. Haven't decided if it's genius or really fucking lazy and directionless. I guess there's value in anything that genuinely puzzling, at least.

couple of new albums from my necks of the wood on heavy rotation in Spotify at the moment:

Norwegian Jenny Hval's " Apocalypse, girl".
"Soft dick rock" as she calls it, for fans of Annette Peacock and Laurie Anderson

Finland's "best of 80s" Jaakko Eino Kalevi's (sort of debut) album (same title)
