    Roiling football blather

I was watching a bit of Sweden vs Colombia under-20 Women's World Cup when out of nowhere Kristin Karlsson delivered this hilarious flip throw in. Unfortunately I can't find a video of it (for some reason FIFA didn't include it in their highlights) but there are these two pictures that hopefully...

re: Cole to Liverpool, it's a bit of a strange one I think. If it was financial, you'd think Tottenham could match Liverpool for wages and also have the prospect of possibly playing CL this season. Maybe Hodgson has some grand plan that persuaded him.

    World Cup 2010

That is a bit misleading though as not all of those goals came when Torres was on the pitch, for instance it was because of Pedro that Villa was able to score against Paraguay. Similarly, it was when Llorente came on against Portugal that Spain looked more threatening.

It is shocking on many different levels. I can't believe it.

As Scott says, this doesn't seem to have happened so it's fair to suggest that something more might help/be needed. It also doesn't stop the corruption at the point at which it happens, which is surely when you want to stop it rather than merely preventing future cases (and even then only from...

    World Cup 2010

Does all the wealth at the top of the game - or any other significant differences - really affect people's relationship to the game in terms of actually playing it (which is surely what is at stake here)? To me it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference. Playing football last night would of...

    Dubstep

I'm sure this is really obvious, but does anyone know what the track is around the 38 minute mark? It's played before Work Them.

If South Korea could actually finish they might have won that game.

Seeing as it's been around for awhile now, I figured that story maybe didn't have much truth to it or there was an injunction. If they're running it tomorrow though, are they trying to outdo the Daily Mail in the 'hated by English football fans' stakes?

More importantly, are the BBC showing it and are England wearing red? The attempted block is fantastic. Predictably there is already a facebook group dedicated to it. Also, anyone else agree that the highlights on the BBC site are quite poor? Basically no replays and the highlights don't even...

    World Cup 2010

Rudolfo Borrel - Liverpool's academy director who was previously head of Barca's academy and who had players like Messi and Fabregas pass through under his reign - has made comments about the shocking state that he found Liverpool's academy in when he joined last year. These are two of the...

    World Cup 2010

There was a bit of a discussion about youth development earlier in the thread, so I expect these two links might be of interest. This article in the New York Times on Ajax's youth academy, which covers something similar to Jenks's (?) post about his son's experiences. This article in the...

    World Cup 2010

Sure, but it would mean one of Spain or Chile wouldn't go through and that would be a tragedy.

Also, the Heskey step-overs were amazing. If we're going to go out of the cup we can at least do it in comedy style with plenty of those.

    World Cup 2010

Can't really write a coherent post right now, but think we could really have learnt something from Brazil vs North Korea i.e. the fact you have a free wide man when playing against teams that play with 5 at them back. Also think the Spain result might have been haunting the team and perhaps...

    World Cup 2010

Going back to the shocking state of punditry briefly (unfortunately I didn't see Hodgson's contribution, but it would seem he's exempt from this), the BBC have actually put a load of the research on a plate for these pundits -...

I think it is just the one person as well, so I presume they must be a student or something. Hopefully though they are writing their way into a full time football journalist position because it really is an amazing website. It's always worth reading before a match just to give the game some...

    Roiling football blather

Well that's sort of the point, the academy has been shocking and it was only last year that Benitez got to do something about it after the removal of Parry. He's brought in Rudolfo Borrel who is the former head of Barca's youth set up and who over saw the development of player's like Messi...

    Roiling football blather

The season Liverpool had the third highest wage bill, Benitez nearly won the league. This season it is apparently Arsenal that have the third highest wage bill. I am fairly sure that this season just finished, Liverpool actually had the fifth highest wage bill. At any rate, according to The Fink...
