    "R'n'B" recommendations PLEASE!?

I'm sure Drake has been mentioned in this thread already somewhere, but I can't get enough of Successful after hearing it almost every morning on the Rinse breakfast show. Not strictly R&B I suppose, but vocals from Trey Songz. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie"...

    "R'n'B" recommendations PLEASE!?

Saw Solange in London a couple of months back and she actually gave a shout out to Boards of Canada! Bizarre.

    global financial crash yay!

Kind of a bizarre article! It reads like what would happen if Vice started covering finance.

    global financial crash yay!

Am I missing something here? What's the point he's trying to make, cos even as satire that article comes across rather confused...

films you've seen recently and would NOT recommend

I'm not a Von Trier connoisseur or anything, but I did enjoy Dear Wendy. I also wish he'd finish the American trilogy thing, cos Dogville and Manderlay are both interesting movies. The premise for Anti-Christ sounds fairly ropey though.

    global financial crash yay!

Ah yes, Krugman showed that chart at his LSE lectures. There's another simpler and more up-to-date version here. Interesting to see that since the peak at the end of last year the balance sheet has fallen slightly, perhaps a reflection of the FED's exit strategy?

Did anyone here go to Sonar this year

Yep, this year was my second trip to Sonar. Highlights of Sonar by Day: Dorian Concept The Wizard Raster Noton (Byetone and Alva Noto were probably my two favourite performances of the festival) Konono No1 By Night: Shed + Marcel Dettmann Fever Ray Richie Hawtin Carl Craig Jeff Mills (minus...

films you've seen recently and would NOT recommend

This is the worst film I've seen in aaaaaages. So so bad, and not even saved by the lovely Ludivine Sagnier. Pour Elle was considerably better.

    Good broken beat stuff

Big thankyou to Owen and Hint for upping those Co-Op sets - exactly what I've been looking for! So many classic broken beat tunes! Love the crowd vibes and energy. I might be able to fill in a few blanks in the tracklisting after a couple of listens. The first tune on Part 2 is actually Loose...

    global financial crash yay!

Krugman has been speaking at the LSE for the last two evenings, and is on again tomorrow. The event is ticketed, but today, because of the tube strike, there were a few empty seats, so if anyone's interested then come along! Otherwise the series is being podcast and streamed here. I'll try and...

    Good broken beat stuff

There's a new Seiji mix of funky on his site. And the Moonstarr Resident Advisor podcast from a few weeks back has some broken-beats in amongst the nu-jazz.

    Chris Woodhead= Cnut

Some of the mostly highly ranked private schools in the country offer a large percentage of students scholarships or discounts on fees. See, for example, Christ's Hospital School or the King Edward's Foundation. Both of these organisations are funded through land ownership in a system not...

    Best grime producers

I voted Rapid, but I don't know anything about grime these days. I used to keep an ear out for Wonder's beats after he did Dizzee's Respect Me and Nio's Best Foot Forward... Can anyone ID this Rapid beat btw? http://www.zshare.net/audio/60387251cfca5f68/ Bet its really obvious...

    Good broken beat stuff

Looks like there's a little bit of a renaissance going on with broken beat. I see Bugz have a new regular night on at East Village in Shoreditch. Some interest from the "wonky" (:slanted:) folks as well, especially with regards to that Dorian Concept LP on Kindred Spirits. As for recommended...

Berlin tonight: MULATU ASTATKE & THE HELIOCENTRICS

Saw this last night at Koko in London. Have to say it was a great show, both from Mulatu himself and The Heliocentrics. There was a great deal of musical talent on stage and it really showed through in the excellent solos. I notice they're playing a few festivals over the summer - highly...

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

Disagree. There are clearly some themes that run through his movies, but that doesn't make Synecdoche any less worthy of a watch. I'd certainly pity someone missing out on it on that basis that they've seen Human Nature! I actually thought the film did a good job of describing a particular...
