    Cassette Swap Reboot

We allowed CDRs last time with the caveat that the art had to be spectacular. OK, so that’s continuum, bassbeyondreason, benw, paolo, crofton, ifp, owengriffiths, and new-boy disqus. Not eden, tho; apparently he’s unreliable. ;) May 31st sounds good to me, although who are we kidding; we’re...

    Cassette Swap Reboot

I think it might be about time we revived the idea: Ferrite Love Connection The rules as they were in 2008: Rule #1 : To get a tape, you must send a tape. Rule #2 : Take your time and create something unique. You should be proud to say, "I made that tape." Rule #3: All tracklists/artwork must...

    Daft Punk

Anyone who is an aspiring performer should take note of zhao’s approach here. Observe: …trolling… …trolling… …trolling… …trolling… …trolling… …and BAM! self promotion. Well played, sir. Well played.

    Record Store Day

I've also found that and I live in the wilds of eastern Canada. Of course, house and techno are so fringe out this way that the people who own/work in the record shops around here glare down long noses at my requests and then double the mark-up.

    Acid House

A friend of mine is making and releasing honest-to-god hardware-driven acid house. In fact, he's started a DIY label. The records are on the pricey side, but if you like what you hear then I would encourage you to buy. I, for one, would like to see him succeed. Website...

    best needles / cartridges

Lots of opinions here: http://www.dissensus.com/showthread.php?6997-DJs...-what-cartridges/page2&highlight=shure+cartridge I'm still running M447s. For me, nothing else quite matches up.

    Getting ripped off ...

I have to admit first that I have absolutely no experience with any labels releasing my stuff, BUT I have been told from reliable sources locally who do release stuff regularly on beatport that they have real problems getting paid by 'net labels for their tracks. Not just one guy or one label...

Where were you when vinyl died?

I just love records. I have a CDJ, but I realized the other day that I haven't even turned it on in 8 months. As for digital, Theo said it best:

    Sleeves of the Decade

How about Orbital - The Altogether. Not the best example of their musical talent, but beautiful nonetheless. EDIT: Stupid discogs... http://www.discogs.com/image/R-4047-1144979830.jpeg

    digital mixing styles

We should all work together to produce tracks that defy the auto-sync.

    in-ear headphones

Isolation is fantastic. I use them to mow the lawn, for example. I've even DJed with them when I was stuck. It got me thinking about proper in-ear monitors.

    in-ear headphones

From headphonereviews.org: Top 10 value-for-money Canalphones This website isn't manufacturer shite, either. You have to apply to the headfi admins to write reviews. I continue to be pleased with my JVC Marshmallows. You can pick them up at Zellers for about $25CAD, nomos.

    DAW questions thread

It comes with Cubase SX3, 4 and now 5, but only with the full versions. No one ever posts the embracer vst because it's bundled with the software for free.

    DAW questions thread

See what I mean? As and aside, were either of you fellas working with Version 3+? I've been trying to track down that strings VST, Embracer.

    monitor speakers

That's sort of the point, though: you want a flat frequency response. You want monitors to "colour" the sound as little as possible. If you can get your stuff to sound good on flat monitors, it'll sound amazing on speakers designed for listening.
