    british 70's horror

I really like the films of Pete Walker. They're often written off as crass and exploitative but they match the tenor of the times very well - the villains are the type of people who think that hangings too good and would back Enoch Powell and Mary Whitehouse all the way. House of Whipcord and...

Has ketamine ever directly influenced musical styles?

There should be a UK response to screwed and chopped based around ketamine - shoegazer takes on grime.

Skrewdriver - the ultimate punk band

And all power to Steve of Wolves (of Greece), Heresy and The X Rays! A fine figure of a man.

Skrewdriver - the ultimate punk band

Bassnation: I meant that the original members of the band weren't happy, the ones in the pre-white power incarnation of the band when they were signed to Chiswick records. It was only after this line up split up that Stewart reformed as a white power act (if I'm remembering The Guardian piece...

    Plush's "Fed"

I really like Fed. Ironically however, Underfed, a Cd of demos for Fed (released on a Drag City offshoot) is better than the finished article.

Skrewdriver - the ultimate punk band

I'll stand up and say that I really like Skrewdriver - the pre-white power stuff anyway (I've never heard any of that.) The only link between the first line up and the (overtly racist) second is the singer and supposedly the rest of the original line up were none too happy with what he did...

How to be an Underground Smash!

Surely for 'the Commitee' we just need to expand Pop Idol to be a 24 hr a day every day kinda show. And replace Waterman or Walsh or whoever w/, uh, Marcello Carlin. One thing that I think would help destroy the 'excess of creation' (excess of access?), although in a slightly different area...

    ong-bak, martial arts movie

The re-edited Western shogun assassin Shogun Assassin has an amazing synth score, bizarrely by Mark Lidsey of 60s garage pop-rockers Paul Revere and the Raiders. It also has my favourite advert of all time, as included on every other Vipco DVD ever.

    the wire

The biggest surprise in The Wire these days is guessing which out of Nick Cave or Einsturzende Neubauten Biba Kopf is going to mention in his editorial. Sometimes he'll mention both to keep everyone on their toes.

"curate" = mark of the tosser innit

I've always wondered how Scanner gets away with it. Has anyone in the history of the world ever enjoyed a record of his ever? I've never heard of them if they have. I suppose he's gathered together an impressive looking CV and is good at pitching for work.

so is Tony Wilson gonna make an impact on America's view of GRIME?

"Wake up America, you're DEAD!" That didn't really work for him last time, did it?
