    Sharks!!!!

it's tough to find a favourite. i was fond of crap sharks (or pathetic sharks) from viz in the 80s, they were scared of people, water, fish, everything and spent their whole time chatting about inconsequential stuff, weather, clothes, and whenever something'd happen or they were called upon to...

I have a popcorn kernal stuck behind my teeth

D, that's some weak excuse. the kernel might not even be there, perhaps it's your way of putting off something that really needs to be done, something that's causing you discomfort and you won't admit it. what are you avoiding? what aren't you telling us? The stuck kernel syndrome has been...

    twin lens reflex

wasn't there a Harry Jacob exhibition on at the photographer's gallery a few years ago... i think it was the same studio in Brixton. a document showing glimpses into the stories of the familes who came to brixton, giving up small clues about their aspirations and history, and what they meant...

    Freak Waves

surfers in my experience = bad news: passive aggressive, narcissistic, territorial, just leave 'em be. the actual surfing experience is up there with skateboarding, but it's not really possible to do it in London. I'll stick to watching crystal voyager

    M.I.A. -- "Galang" on XL

agreed, I wouldn't call her versatile so I'm not expecting much and it's the grime bounce that attracted me. and as Jim Daze rightly pointed out it doesn't sound that great in clubs cause of how it was mastered.

    M.I.A. -- "Galang" on XL

it came out way over a year ago on the Showbiz Recordings. the single was produced by either Ross or Stewart from the Fat Truckers who own the label. M.I.A. is one of those people who'd be at 'the' parties a couple of years ago, living with with Justin3 Frishm^nn (elastica), and duely knows the...

Mixtape-only tracks that deserve wider recognition

I'm amazed how much gets left on the studio floor. my most recent discovery was 'bubba sparxx + petey pablo - git on dis motorcycle' like so many mixtape moments it never found an album. And what came of 'Take Time', that dizzee track where he stops to muse and whistle. I'd have bought an album...

Music you are exposed to involuntarily.

I can't speak for anyone else but I'm mostly involuntarily exposed to music in my head. Once I get a song stuck, that's it, it's on the playlist with the sound of emails arriving, the boiler droning, the neighbours, Extractor Fans, car alarms, stolen scooters, the fridge, the hoodies playing...

    Freak Waves

we used to drive out to the gower on the weekends, driving past port talbot at night, which is like riding a concrete ribbon over the opening titles of blade runner. down at the beach we'd play, adventure, collect wood and get lost, then light fires, eat well and play footie when the logs had...

    LCD soundsystem - the album

'give it up' and 'yeah' aren't on the version I heard, but they've put that energy into some other tracks, and the sonic festishism that threatened to overshadow the album is focussed and applied, it's not the overblown experiment I feared it might end up as. the whole thing works and everything...

    LCD soundsystem - the album

yes, they did it. LCD have delivered on the promise of losing my edge/beat connection 12". anyone who had any doubts about their ability to expand from an EP to an album can relax. it's as consistent and cohesive as that EP. I thought it might never get released, or mastered. what a relief...

rupture's post election mix - download

i've been listening to this mix since this thread started, it great, although I'm not enjoying it as much as the first rupture mix i heard. It's made me think that I'm always frustrated how it doesn't fit into my lifestyle : i can't play this stuff to my friends much, I lose the feelin for it...
