I know several fixed gear people who are definitely not hipsters. It's a bike nerd thing, something hipsters have got hold of via courier culture. I don't know what it's like in the states, but in London you saw couriers riding fixed gear bikes years before it was generally a "cool" thing to do...

^ Someone I work with uses that M-Audio controller with Ableton for live stuff, including controlling live vocal processing via Ableton, and says he really likes it. I've always thought it looked a bit clunky myself. The new Novation controller, the Nocturn, looks pretty nice too...

The new album "Distortion" is indeed covered in feedback, I think on every instrument and every voice has some element of it. I don't think it totally works - when I saw them play the new songs live, acoustic and totally sans feedback of any kind, then the songwriting really shone through...

Stephin Merritt Is I think my favourite songwriter... I only discovered The Magnetic Fields four or five years ago, and just got hold of the Future Bible Heroes record "Eternal Youth" today, which is absolutely blowing me away on first listen. I've no idea why it took me so long to get it...

I saw the new Batman at the weekend... it's good, but too long, and doesn't really have a pleasant story arc - a series of explosive, climatic sequences without the story as a whole reaching a proper climax. I think if you're a Batman fan and know the canon, you'll probably enjoy it more than...
