    New York vs. London

yeah i'm torn on bourdain. on one hand, he's a) obviously kind of a dick and b) has an irrational jihad against vegetarians, but on the other he did once interview mutabaruka and has talked a ton of shit on rachel ray

    Postmodernity and christianity

um, wow. when i was 12 i was more or less handed off to/kidnapped by my extended family, most of whom are southern baptists of the snake-handling, tongue-speaking variety, and that day they were taking part in a large christian booksellers convention. guess who was forced to dress up in the FULL...

    Good broken beat stuff

must say a big thank you for all the science dropped in this thread. in a way broken beat is the perfect vector to link living in LA with post-garage musics... i like a fair amount of 2-step/dubstep/funky but it feels, erm, geo-sonically strange to listen to them cruising around in triple-digit...

    Funky/London/UK House

    not sure if it counts as funky proper, but there are hints, and i'm feeling it: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=""...

    What is Deleuze?

couldn't agree more, and that goes for the whole of 'philosophical' and theoretical debate. what i see time and again, online and in the academy, is this ridiculous need to assert the intellectual milieu 'we' are in (of course this milieu almost NEVER includes writers from countries outside...

    documentary films

just watched 'when saturn returnz,' the goldie documentary last night. so well done, lacking in all the usual bullshit that music docs fall prey to.

    What is Deleuze?

the few pieces translated to english by suely rolnik, the brazilian psychoanalyst/art critic/theorist with whom guattari wrote molecular revolution..., are pretty amazing as well.

    What is Deleuze?

has anyone read much solo/late guattari? the three ecologies, soft subversions, molecular revolution in brazil... at this point i'm starting to prefer him.

    documentary films

any of the essay-films by black audio film collective are worth tracking down... you can watch 'handsworth songs' on google video. chris marker, agnes varda, alain renais and a few others made a collaborative film called 'loin du vietnam' that is a stunner. 'jaguar' by jean rouch (zhao i think...

    RIP rashied ali

...one of the greats for sure. his playing always sounded to me like he was levitating, swirling around the room: http://www.jazzwisemagazine.com/component/content/article/51-2009/10928-revolutionary-drummer-rashied-ali-dies probably a good night to commune with journey in satchidanada et. all.

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

"J'ai pas sommeil," is so lovely, as is "Beau travail," and The Intruder. Trouble Ever Day, well maybe 'lovely' isn't the word but it's another good Denis film. Just watched Harun Farocki's Videogrammes of a Revolution last night and am still speechless, totally singular and essential viewing.

on the blending tip, throw in: *hemp milk *banana *raw cacao powder *raw cacao nibs *almond butter *agave *cinnamon if one is feeling ambitious, the sweet potato smoothie. it tastes like frosty pumpkin pie in shake form: *carrot juice *sweet potato juice/a few sliced of frozen sweet potato...

    How dodgy is soy?

as for non-dairy cheese, there is some aged hemp cheese that is pretty amazing... re: why one wouldn't want to drink milk, my reasoning is partially that the cows in the US, for the most party, are fed disgusting levels of hormones & antibiotics, which then get concentrated in the milk, which...

    How dodgy is soy?

the thought of guzzling a glass of soy music is so gross to me... with any of the milk alternatives (almond, rice, hemp, oat, etc), think of how many grains/nuts have to be pressed in order to produce a box of liquid (it's quite a lot)... that is a TON of calories and sugars.
