    Ambient suggestions

I asked for Chill Out suggestions referencing the same touchstones as the OP and the recommendations were spot on. Would be nice if that thread and this one were merged, like, for future reference. Also, Zoviet France "Mohnomishe" (listening to it now)

A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again by DFW was pretty funny and very very nineteen nineties; obviously written before the cell phone was in every pocket and before everyone had an intertube connection. the bit he wrote about being on the set of Lost Highway would be of interest to Lynch...

    what are you reading now?

well, reading the jacket flap (so to speak), there's a lot of overlap with my own personal life and being a pynchon fan, i've got to give it a spin only through the first chapter but i've already got a list of fifteen or so characters (only way i can get through a pynchon novel is by making a...

    things you have noticed.

Troubling to read about the cat/fox brawl, as we've just moved to a fox-heavy neighborhood. Neighbors assured me that their cats haven't been killed by the foxes, as evidenced by their (cats) presence (there). When I first heard the foxes howling, I'd assumed that they were teenagers carrying on...

A Walk Through H. My Tulse Luper obsession is kicking into high gear. It has been slowly gestating for years but the Greenaway Early Films/Shorts box set has lit my fire. My mixed metaphor quota is maxed out but I'll be damned if it doesn't scratch where I've been itching.

Chloe by Atom Egoyan. Bourgeois soft core for the art film circuit? Unsympathetic protagonists. Unconvincing femme fatale. Shoe-horned discussion of CD vs. MP3. Minimal boobage. Egoyan's hit/miss ratio is leaning to the latter.

finally rewatched this after an empty fifteen (odd) years of abstinence (from watching it) after years of fruitless googling of "post-apocalyptic + archer" and "dystopia + homoerotic battle cars" i found it again the best soundtrack ever by dude from goblin/crazy gang - ominous italo disco -...

^ Ride the Whirlwind is a must if you are obsessive about Nicholson and/or Harry Dean Stanton (i am borderline) also recently caught mr stanton in Wise Blood, John Huston's adaptation of the amazing F. O'Connor novella very faithful to the book but maybe not as funny strange though probably...

been really into films set in Texas lately Hud, starring Paul Newman as a very hard to like antihero but he's got tons of charisma. interesting to hear about folk resisting punching holes into the land for oil in light of the BP fiasco --- that sort of connection to the land/earth is...

Hour of the Wolf A Bergman horror film (!); most intense pole-fishing scene in cinematic history. Love how Bergman's shoots in low light. And the way the wind blows seemingly on cue (Tarkovsky manages to summon elemental powers in this way).
