So, Julian Cope is going to publish this new book called “Japrocksampler” and…

Krautrocksampler is a classic. Cope's enthusiasm is indeed infectious. So much so that he oversells some of the bands IMHO, but it's a fantastic introduction to the genre. WIll definitely buy the Japrock book even though I suspect there's less in that scene that's as essential as the classics of...

LCD Soundsystem = the New Was (Not Was)?

In a good way:cool: . accomplished producers make their own quality music too achingly hip, music press darlings quirky/original Just listening to the Sounds Like SIlver remixes. Mighty fine.

    London free papers

... and those guys with the papers are pretty aggresive - just step off a bus at Waterloo and they're all over you, one from each of the new papers, both wearing purple. Get out of my way - i don't want it. It's all crap. Pisses me off when I see so many people reading Metro in the morning too...

    Lost 80's obscurity

You can get an edition of "4th Drawer" together with "Sulk": "Sulk" includes "Club Country" and the fantiastic, classic "Party Fears Two". Give it time, and be prepared for some duff songs too, as the Associates' output was patchy. Worth it though for some real gems. Also check out their...

    The Smiths

Smiths/Suede? Don't see it myself. But "Animal Nitrate" is the best Bowie song that Bowie didn't write (not in the "Pinups" sense, but David Bowie songs).

    The Smiths

That's the thing that a lot of folks commenting on the Smiths' -or specifically Mozzer's - miserablism seem to have missed: the humour. Listen to the lyrics of, say "This Charming Man". Fantastic. Morrissey is undoubtedly a strange man, but he doesn't take himself as seriously as, say, Elvis...

    New dj shadow album

Always hated Dj Shadow. There's a smugness about his music that just winds me up. No passion. And a host of celebrity mates won't make it any better.

    Walkman chic

Minidisc is pretty good - still use it in the car, but I prefer MP3 now. What I really, really don't get though is people still using CD walkmans ... it's too big for a pocket so they have to hold it in their hands, it jogs easily and the CDs are relatively bulky to carry around. Just totally...

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

Spot on! I just got this album too. Fantastic. The funny thing about it is what it does to whatever you might listen to after it ... hard to explain but it kind of alters your perception slightly by bringing you into its world. A sign of quality.

    Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto

Sakamoto at his best is genius stuff. But he is capable of dross. Saw him at RFH in London a few years ago with violin and viola players ... him on piano ... boring as fuck. But Forbidden Colours is awesome.

Eno is back with Roxy Music

Peter Perrett ... where is he now? I used to love the Only Ones, but he seemed a seriously fucked up guy. Hope he's got himself a bit sorted out.
