    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

Thanks for the pointer autonomic. Just downloaded the EP from Bleep and listening to it now. Mighty fine. Thinking about that reference to the "car test" in the interview ... this would be excellent music for driving round a city at night. Or driving the autobahns, through the industrial north...

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

Listened to the extracts off Blackdown's blog this morning. Intriguing. Anyone know where I can get hold of some of Burial's other stuff? Cheers.

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

Looking forward to hearing this. It's refreshing to see emphasis on feeling rather than gear, plugins and engineering. I like a nicely-produced tune but it's easy to get depressed reading mags like Computer Music with their emphasis on stuff and on engineering skills, seemingly to the exclusion...

    Sci-Fi novels

Yes! A Canticle for Liebowitz is an amazing book: moving and thought-provoking. I read it because I had been reading about Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban (another one in my top 3 SF), and A Canticle for Liebowitz was cited as an influence. The same theme addressed in very different ways...

    dnb and The Wire

Thanks big satan. I'll give those a try. BTW, I tried listening to Pulse Demon again by Merzbow and remembered why I had hated it so much. Onto eBay it goes ...

    What is the Best Newspaper?

All the broadsheets have good and bad. At one time or another they all have good features, on music, politics etc. But they all now put in stuff as news that just isn't news: fashion, Hello-style celebrity tat, Pete n' Kate, and basically local stories blown up beyond reason. I used to have the...

    dnb and The Wire

Thought I might bring the Keiji fans into the light ... I tried to find the CD I bought to get the name of it but couldn't. It had him plus a jazz drummer and bassist all paying at the same time but not seeming to be connected in any way. It was rubbish. Also some other stuff I heard I hated...

    dnb and The Wire

That's my beef with it ... they big stuff up that turns out to be nothing special. Pretty much everything I've bought after a glowing write-up in the Wire has turned out to be crap (for example they think Keiji Haino is a god...).

An appeal for good Mac shareware

Did anyone mention Audio Hijack? Nice little app for grabbing audio from any application, including iTunes, on your Mac. In the demo version the files degrade but you can just throw them into ReCycle or some other program and save them there. Or buy the full version of course, which is only $16...

    Reggae and dub

Yeah, Two 7's Clash. Classic. Arkology Box Set. King Tubby box set. Or the Lee Perry one with the spliff-smokin' super-ape on the cover (Return of the Super-Ape?)

    Squirrells are the new rats

Some time ago I was having problems with the car: nasty smells from the engine compartment, then car wouldn't start at all. Called out the AA who fixed it and told me that squirrels had been chewing at some wiring. The nasty smell was because not content with damaging my car the little bastards...

Books you've read recently and would unreservedly recommend

Vineland by Thomas Pynchon - one of my favourite books ever, if not the favourite. Funny, moving, political and beautifully structured. Lost count of how many times I've read it. It's also more accessible than some of his other stuff, so if you want to read some Pynchon but couldn't get past the...

nme's top 100 british albums of all time

I did! Great record. But the list sucks, generally.

    Laptop vs. traditional turntable djing.

No, it's a special, not one of the regular monthly ones. Came out in December I think. Did you try the lessons within Live?

    Laptop vs. traditional turntable djing.

Asger, Live 5 has lessons built in and one of these covers DJ mixes. The Demo has it too. It's pretty easy to follow. Also this month Computer Music has a special on Live, which includes a section on DJing. The Computer Music specials always seem to deliver less than they promise but for £6 (in...

    Drugs and music appreciation

A few years ago I was in hospital recovering from surgery on my knee. One night, they had given me one of these self-administered morphine shot things - where you press a little button to get more pain relief. I was listening to John Schofield on my walkman, forget which album now but I had just...

    worst musical experience?

Yeah mms you're right the venue didn't help. The Japanese girl you mentioned (I think it was Cotton Casino) annoyed the hell out of me. At one point some bloke came on stage, probably her boyfriend not some random guy from the audience, and they were snogging on the stage. Again, not the best...

Moments you think you're losing your mind.

^^^ fldsfslmn: no, it probably wouldn't. Sorry. I frequently go into a trance when driving. Completely in control, but I realise that I haven't heard any of the music that's been playing for the last 10 mins or so.
