    The Death of Stylus

First, OiNK, now Stylus. Totally unrelated, of course... Or is it? Maybe it's all the filesharing that's brought about the end of internet-based music crit!!!! :) When it first came around it really seemed like little more than a P4K wannabe, but it proved its mettle as a host for a much wider...

    Underwater Dancehall

this rhythmic feel is amazing. Really, the sonic and rhythmic sophistication of this album are something else. I can't wait to get a legit copy (I hope that won't involve paying exorbitant UK -> Canada shipping fees... shouldn't the colonies get a break?). As for the vocals, I definitely agree...

    The Death of Oink

It still seems slightly ridiculous that in this digital age of p2p etc., I can't fucking pay to download Trim's mixtapes. You'd think an independent scene like grime would be the quickest to wise up to something like this.

Impact of smoking ban on clubs

same here in toronto. A non-smoker, I'd sort of romanticized coming home from the bars smelling of smoke (I was a teenage and stupid). When the smoke cleared, all that was revealed was beer and sweat. ugh.

    The Death of Oink

especially since (I know how lame this sounds), something like OiNK might well have been a net increaser in overall music sales.

the disappearance of the black band

this piece in the Oxford American magazine makes the same point as Jess H in Idolator, but with more melancholy (and liking indie more as a whole)

    Spoken word

I've seen too much bad slam poetry (don't ask) to be able to take much spoken word, although I admit that seeing Saul Williams once was, to borrow baboon's work, intoxicating.

    The Death of Oink

yeah, the coverage is really pissing me off. you used to be able to donate a little $ to keep the site going, but I doubt that was ever a money making scheme. I'd wager a site with 180 000 members would need to find some way of paying for itself!

    Idm

idm as breakcore? don't people dance to breakcore? I recently saw Marc Leclair aka akufen at a sit-down laptop show playing some muzak to a movie/animation, and it may as well have been idm.

    The Death of Oink

Oink is no more. I don't know how many of you all used the pink pig, but its death is huge for me. I downloaded unholy amounts of music from there, and certainly bought all kinds of records, CDs, and even occasionally MP3s based on what I found there. For me, Oink (along with Dissensus really)...
