    Tremé

oh, i agree it's a refreshing change from quick cut TV etc. But after just 2eps it's already risking seeming formulaic. The cameos seem to follow a very similar format each time, for example. Doesn't need car chases, but some tension or drama or deeper characterisation

    Tremé

i think it needs to up its game a bit - I know it's slowburn but Ep 2 was pretty much a re-run of Ep1 - 50% polemic and 50% "hey, it's XXX" cameos. Which are fine - I could happily watch an hour of shots of the city with Professor Longhair over the top, to be honest - but it needs some drama...

    what you currently enjoying ?

that looks tasty, cheers... I'm really impressed with the new Caribou album, and immersed in the Singing Detective 3-CD set...

if nothing else, this will go down as the TV series with the best music ever, certainly that I can think of. Pretty much all killer no filler - if I haven't got a track (and I do have shitloads of Crescent City stuff), I'll probably want it.

    hardcore classics

was never into hardcore at the time although I've dabbled since, so really appreciate this thread, if nothing else for making me dig out my copy of Horn Track, which is probably my fave dance track of all time. Just brutal...

admitting you were wrong: music you used to like and now hate

Rollercoaster tour. Cracking night out. I always thought that although ALbarn can be a bit toxic, Blur have been one of the most consistently inventive bands of the last 20 years or so, in the "indie / mainstrem" field anyhow. It didn't all work - they made some shockers - but then that's what...

    Who are you voting for?

I went to a grammar school and the very notion of their return is an appalling one. I'm all for (very very mobile) streaming within schools, but a two-tier system like the grammar school is divisive, harmful, elitist and unacceptable.

    Who are you voting for?

unless there are some surprises on the ballot in my ward, I'm not voting. My "compromise" approach to Labour has gone far enough, the "yeh, but they're still better than the other lot" argument no longer holds, for a dozen reasons. So, no. Sadly, in the absence of a none of the above option...

    Festival Dates

just in case any of you are heading to any festies this summer, I'm playing these: Glastonbury Festival, June 23-27th in the Pussy Parlure in the Danced Village, 11am-1pm every day, plus some other slots on random stages around and about The Glade, Matterley Bowl, July 15-18th This is another...

    what you currently enjoying ?

Enjoying the new LCD Soundsystem album although I haven't quite absorbed it yet. Very Brian Eno (even more than usual). Revisiting the Gil Scott Heron album, which is a little thin but the good stuff - especially Me & The Devil - is very very good. and some ace soul / R&B - Betty Wright Live...

    Rolling Radio Show Thread

on a different tack to most of these suggestions, next Friday / Saturday is the 4th anniversary of Mark Lamarr's God's Jukebox show on Radio 2. Whatever you think of Lamarr (a lot of people think he's a bellend, I like the guy but don't think TV works for him), the show really is something...

Where were you when vinyl died?

copies of Flaming Lips doing Dark Side of the Moon sold as part of National Record Store day are now on ebay at £250 plus already. The day is sort of a nice idea, but when all the limited edition stuff is being sold to vultures, it sticks in my craw a bit..

South Rakkas Crew, Heatwave ft Warrior Queen (Brixton, April 17th)

well they started at the Hob, moved to the Dogstar, fucked off from there - allegedly to Camden, although that never seemed to happen, and now they're back. Sluttish is good if it brings their stodgy, spicy goodness nearer to my door :)

South Rakkas Crew, Heatwave ft Warrior Queen (Brixton, April 17th)

It is odd, I used to love the Canning, sketchy as it was (it usually felt like the last bar open at Glastonbury on a Monday morning) but nobody's ever really made live music work there. Hootananny seemed like a dreadful idea at first - a Scotch themed bar serving Thai food - but now they've...
