Well, yes. That message doesn't exist in that piece. But the story you posted serves a function within a much wider narrative which carries the opposite message. It's been a long time since I read Promethea, so I could be wrong. I just think you're drawing a long bow when you compare a skit...

That blackface skit wasn't ironic though, that's the thing. Those guys were playing it pretty straight. Less "this is how we used to do things and it's shameful" a la Moore, and more "aren't black people funny? ha ha ha!" sort of thing... Actually, that's what's really worrying.

I heard that story when I was about eight - so that's more than likely. I'm completely aware that the story is probably false! I think I rationalised it at the time by thinking that they were probably talking about the kind of cowboy who rode the range in a Ford V8.
