Still loving R&B this year...i didn't see it mentioned, but Tori alamaze - don't cha is great, also that song al just put up on govt names is really nice, trackmasters R&B. Also, where is the love for the new Tweet single? And I've heard good things about the Brooke Valentine album.

    The ol' ethno-tourism question

(and as someone who had an ill-concieved dallience with that undie world at the beginning of college I can safely and sadly say he is very very OTM)

    The ol' ethno-tourism question

Jess, I don't think he's talking about the pop charts at all, he's clearly referring to that little underground/indie world he inhabits where the best selling artists are guys like Aesop Rock and Sage Francis.

    The ol' ethno-tourism question

I feel like I should have the scams white rappers have Is actually "should have the scans" as in numbers. And "white rappers" = sage francis and aesop rock, i would presume. (among others) I like that song. I just sold my Murs album though, the one on Def Jux before that one. "End of the...

Have you ever heard something so good it made you cry?

"Heaven or Hell" is a good one. I know its cliche as a hip-hop fan to say this, but certainly the first time I heard "They Reminisce Over You" There are quite a few Notorious B.I.G. moments, I have to say "My mother got cancer in her breast/ don't ask me why i'm mothafuckin stressed, things...

    Honour in Music.

I'm sorry guys this entire thread seems sort of off its rocker to me, mostly because the terms seem to have been so vaguely defined. By "honest" i really don't have much of an idea what you mean. I like lots of music that is dishonest because it comes across as honest, and lots of music that is...

My favorite John Legend song is actually "Live it Up," lush and gourgeous philly soul.

    r&b

I don't think its actually timbaland, he gives a shoutout to "Tim and Bob" as his producers - I could be wrong though, "Tim" could be Timbaland. It definitely bears the mark of his influence.

Dear PitchforkMedia, You are really freaking me out (Re. Ruff Sqwad)

I'd say the chief misconception you've got going on is in this sentence....

Amerie has a BEAUTIFUL voice, I wish the JLo single had her on it too. My big thing right now is this gourgeous track out of ATL called "Slow Down" by Bobby Valentino from luda's crew Disturbing the Peace. You can get it here, its this shimmering middle-eastern thing sprinkled with...

    More MIA

I don't know what to think about this any more. And the music doesn't even help, because I like it but it doesn't grab me enough to make me want to make passionate stands in its defense, and like Jess said w/r/t Run the Road and dancehall...

    More MIA

Jess, OTM, but lets see that dancehall mix CD tracklist.

    RFI: Jim Jones

Ironically, I wouldn't call "Crunk Musik" a crunk track; jim jones is in dipset and from New York, and its definitely more of a dipset-capitalizing-on-crunk thing. It is a fantastic cut though. If yr looking for more of that sort of weird new york rap thing, check out the album Diplomatic...

When people with "Normal Music Taste" ask you what you listen to...

"rap" or "pop" the problem w/ saying "rap" at the school i go to is i end up having to talk about the Roots and Atmosphere for an hour... I figure i should just start saying "indie" and wear pumas, i might get laid more often.
