Darkthrone are pretty much my favourite metal band. Pig Destroyer are fucking fantastic too, apparently Jessica Rylan has been joining them on stage recently, which sounds weird and interesting. Immortal older Burzum Mayhem Gorgoroth Slayer Abruptum EYEHATEGOD Boris Om Sleep High on Fire...

    Grime Rewind

fair enough, i was genuinely curious as i only know about 2 other people who listen to grime, and they aren't really into rewinds either.

New Order vs the Rolling Stones

even blue monday leaves me cold, i can't fathom how a few years earlier the same band had been coming up with crazed tracks like digital. well it's all a matter of taste blablabla... aside from about 3 songs i'm not into the stones either.

    Grime Rewind

i'm serious. just as things start to get going it's stop and back to the beginning again. if it's such a good idea how come you don't see that in every style of music? how come bands don't start playing a song, stop, then start from the begining again?

New Order vs the Rolling Stones

hail i think they should have hung up their intruments after ian curtis offed himself.

    Grime Rewind

i find rewinds a bit self-indulgent and they always spoil the flow of the music. does anyone actually like them?

    Gender Wars

hail most of the time you can't even see the DJ anyway so whether they're a fit woman or not is totally beside the point, and to be honest to see them so blatantly trading off their looks makes me assume they are rubbish DJs.

    Genre Wars

i agree, making a new genre every time somebody puts out a record, and then only being able to hear this newly invented genre at a club night that only plays that one genre is detrimental to music. and it's (probably) the fault of fucking music journalists who want to be resposible for coining...

new isht... what's got you excited in music lately?

i heard Alan Silva's Celestrial Communication Orchestra 3LP this week and it was fucking insane, that got me excited for sure. Also The Slugfuckers - 79-81 Cacophony cd is great, they're an australian post-punk band who're kind of like a mixture of early The Fall, Mars, early Sonic Youth and The...

    -Soul Music-

there's certain free jazz that hits me in pretty much the sort of simple, direct & raw way described in the first post, particularly Black Woman by Sonny Sharrock, Linda Sharrock's singing on that is about the most incredible i've heard. i'd urge anyone who hasn't heard it to check it out.

    his big white self/kwaito

i got turned on to Earth by watching hornby's "kurt & courtney" documentary, it makes me keen to see what this kwaito stuff is like. was the film on tv or in the cinema?

    Personal Character reflected in Music

well music obsessives like us would listen to more music if we had more time, but most people aren't that into music in the first place. when i was a teenager i used to think that people listened to music i perceived as bad because they didn't know any better so i'd try and turn people on to...

    What is the Best Newspaper?

hail the best (i.e. the only good) music reviews in a newspaper is the sunday times magazine, for which the comedian stewart lee writes. but to be honest i really don't understand why people on this board pay so much attention to mainstream music coverage, as it is always awful.

    dnb and The Wire

sounds like it could be the either the one with joey baron and greg cohen or the laswell/ali one. seriously, i can't think of anyone who's discography is more of a minefield to the not-already-an-obsessed-fan than keiji haino. i'd recomend any of the early 90s fushitsusha stuff as a good...

Why doesn't anyone here like 'indie' music anymore?

well the best rock shows i've been to in recent months are the ones where people dance (or whatever) and the band puts on a beast of a performance e.g. wolf eyes, melt banana. i don't know why people are so reticent to move about at rock shows these days. i'm not against dancing, or dance music...
