True enough. Saw Paris, Texas at the flicks when it came out...recall crying at one point.

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

The Last Picture Show - and I feel like the last person to see this classic, but it's been on the Must See list for so long that it got forgotten until recently - and what a film it is - not only for Cybill Shepherd's strip-on-the-diving-board scene, not for that at all, but the whole cast...

    Books on Music

Note: if you're looking for a thoroughly comprehensive, authoritative analysis of Jazz, with concise explanations of the technical aspects regarding improvisation and composition as well as a social history of black America...er...don't read this book...

    what are you reading now?

PKD's best book, for me. He's an artist who influence is immense and someone I admire, ideas-wise, but have always found his prose to be so second-rate. I'll probably try him again at some point. I've just bought a little book called The Face On The Fork from Beat Scene Press containing texts...

    what are you reading now?

Yes, that one, which I presume is suppose to mirror (ha-ha) the tenant's mirror...or maybe not. If so, it should have been plain. I don't know much about Topor, but some of his art is good.

    what are you reading now?

The Tenant - Roland Topor...brilliant portrayal of paranoia & madness at the hands of neighbours (everybody, especially the tenant, needs good neighbours) - as you've probably seen the film, you'll know the story...and the book is just as good, probably better, but in, you know, words. Did he...

I was born clever and have grown increasingly stupid with each passing day. Shall die in blissful, total ignorance.

    what are you reading now?

Lost in the labyrinth of the Navidson household, having travelled it's corridors years ago and returned without finding the end. Silly me, there is no 'end', but this time I've gone further. Expect comprehensive notes, analysis, and whole books about my experience later. ;)

The Artist Believe the hype. Feel good factor: 10 & yes, the dog & the dream sequence. Too 'mainstream' for you? Then f*ck off. :D

Seconded. Although I don't think it's one to read cover-to-cover. 'Never Any End To Paris' by Enrique Vila-Matas - I talk about it here in greater depth.

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

Great film! 'I'll show you law, Western law!' (Lee Marvin). Not only are Stewart & Wayne magnificent but so too is the handling of the gun vs law dilemma in relation to personal protection and the politics of the West. A classic.

    what are you reading now?

Funny that, a writer like him being so popular. I wonder what that says about Spanish readers. He is not, after all, a Great Storyteller, the kind which The Public (here at least) normally embrace. I haven't read his short stories, but his 'novels' (that I've read) seem so specifically about the...

    what are you reading now?

Talking of blogging. I've just finished Never Any End To Paris by Enrique Vila-Matas. I reckon he's a very Dissensian (?) writer, if I dare say so. Just about the most important living writer, in my book anyway. You can keep Bolano...:D;) You can read my thoughts here if you want.
