questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

Awesome to see the full transcript of that article. He does talk (a little evasively) about his relationship with Ableton but I don't see anything about the relationship between Max and Live. Obviously, the existence of Max for Live suggests that Max is (or was) the basis for Live but I'd like...

    comics

Just stumbled across a copy of Batman Annual 11 (1987), which features a story written by Alan Moore! Very exciting for me, as a fan of both Bats and Moore. I thought the only Batman story he'd ever written was The Killing Joke. Does anyone know of any others?

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

I've been told that Ableton Live started out as Robert "Monolake" Henke's Max/MSP patch. Is this true and - if so - does that mean he's super rich now?

    Vinyl dying (for DJ's)

One of the problems is that, now DJ-centric 12"s aren't keeping vinyl alive, the emphasis has shifted to deluxe editions of albums in "home listening" genres (rock, experimental...) Often this means record buyers being expected to pay frankly ludicrous prices for "collectable" editions of albums...

Patience (After Sebald) - at the ICA for a few days

Saw this at the Vancouver film festival. It's good. And yeah, the music's great.

    Vinyl dying (for DJ's)

But to be fair, there's also a trend towards albums that could fit one record getting spread across two, for better sound quality, presumably for DJs - the Mount Kimbie being a prime example.

    Vinyl dying (for DJ's)

I've been told that the only advantage of thick vinyl is that it's less likely to warp.

Also, some of my favourite music is exciting precisely because it sounds like it's straining under the weight of its own theory - Gastr Del Sol, Oval and Scritti Politti spring to mind.

I like the Shabazz Palaces album but I like Antipop way more. He's a bit sprawling whereas they're very punchy and precise. In any case, I'm glad there's still someone out there doing that stuff.

    Guitarry shit please

Oh wow, that never occurred to me. Two of my favourite artists! But no, I don't think it's a sample. If you hear a guitar on a Fennesz record, it's probably him playing it.

    Guitarry shit please

I think Husker Du's stuff is more appealing to people who like electronic music because they had more of a noise/psychedelic edge, whereas The Replacements were basically a really good barroom rock band. Surprised that Hype Williams feature so prominently here. I don't recall ever hearing a...

    Twees're Good (except they're not)

May the problem isn't twee per se but its appropriation by advertising "creatives" and the like. Also, I still think there's a misconception about the core twee aesthetic going on here e.g. the idea that it's sexless. As I may have previously mentioned, Beat Happening and Belle & Sebastian have...

    Twees're Good (except they're not)

And from my perspective, Beat Happening is pretty much twee rock ground zero and half their songs are about sex or the sexy allure of danger/darkness (epitomized by "Black Candy").

It's definitely floating around out there. It started out as a CDR that was being passed around (possibly originating from the band themselves?) You might find a link on the forum at www.mybloodyvalentine.net The tracklist is here...

Are we talking about the bootleg with the demos and stuff on? That was certainly a highlight of the year for me. Great to have that stuff on vinyl.

    Twees're Good (except they're not)

Haven't really been following this thread - mainly because the bits I did read seemed like electronic dance music fans committing hate speak against indie rockers - but I feel like I should chip in. This may have been mentioned already but - as far as I can see - twee year zero per se rests...
