    Woebot - Hallo

Listening again. Loving it. I wish John Peel was alive to hear this!

A.R. Kane's early singles were on 4AD, weren't they? Also, Ultra Vivid Scene.

    Woebot - Hallo

Oh yeah, it might have been Eno I was thinking of. Maybe "whimsical" is a better word than "twee" for what's going on here.

    Woebot - Hallo

I guess I'm saying the opposite: the real pioneers of the twee aesthetic (Beat Happening, The Pastels and later B&S) always had a dark undercurrent. The kitsch version of the aesthetic, I would mostly associate with attempts to co-opt that aesthetic to sell yoghurt. Anyway, I am not part of the...

    Woebot - Hallo

Hmmm... Actually, I think it might actually be a little twee. In a good way. The real classic, founding documents of twee rock (Barrett, Beat Happening...) have a innocent surface and an undercurrent of despair/darkness. I hear that here.

    Woebot - Hallo

I like it a lot. Very brave. Primitive musically but beautifully realised. Reminded me at times of The Shadow Ring, Ekkehard Ehlers' "A Life Without Fear" and Adam Jansch (son of Bert). The vocals really remind me of something else but I'm not sure what. Not Syd Barret but something like that.

    Woebot - Hallo

Bit of a departure (to say the least) but bloody brilliant. I won't spoil the surprise. Just get it and discuss. http://music.woebot.com/ Wonder if Matt reads this forum anymore. If so: I salute you sir!

    comics

Yeah, I just wish the comics and movie industries would stop combining to sully Alan Moore's name in the public perception. And I wish DC could move beyond perpetuating a dumbed-down version of the "gritty" aesthetic it pioneered in the 70s and 80s. To be fair though, when Watchmen was...

Wait are we talking about the Before Watchmen bullshit or are you saying you don't like Man of Steel? Here's the info on the Watchmen thing: Before Watchmen: Rorschach (4 issues) – Writer: Brian Azzarello. Artist: Lee Bermejo[8] Before Watchmen: Minutemen (6 issues) – Writer/Artist: Darwyn...

I just read the first couple of issues of John Byrne's Man of Steel. Can you believe the trade paperback is out of print? Fuck you, DC!

Just heard that DC is about to publish a series of prequels to Watchmen. Alan Moore is not involved. This is bullshit.

This live version of the previously-mentioned Husker Du/Byrds classic is quite a thing to behold. The shouting! The moshing! The mud!

"The Hum" (Mysterious pulsing low-frequency sound heard mostly at night)

Is that film for real? I can't find it on IMDB. In any case, I'm still hearing the hum but I'm also becoming increasingly convinced it's an internal sound. Something to do with blocked ears and being able to hear my blood flow, like John Cage in the anechoic chamber. Maybe I should get my ears...

"The Hum" (Mysterious pulsing low-frequency sound heard mostly at night)

Yeah, my missus is complaining about me mentioning this to her because now she can hear it. But really it seems like there's not much you can do about it, so you just have to get used to it.

"The Hum" (Mysterious pulsing low-frequency sound heard mostly at night)

The tinnitus aspect is plausible in my case too because I've been listening to far more music on headphones recently than I normally would. Plus I have a cold, which is making my ears congested, which always gives me some ringing in my ears.

"The Hum" (Mysterious pulsing low-frequency sound heard mostly at night)

In my case, I think it's probably hypersensitivity caused by stress/anxiety but it really does "feel" like an external sound. I'm attracted to the theory that it's caused by an overload of microwaves in the environment but the only people who actually believe that all seem to be crazy conspiracy...

"The Hum" (Mysterious pulsing low-frequency sound heard mostly at night)

I've been experiencing this for the last few years. It finally got bad enough that I decided to do some research. Turns out it's quite the phenomenon and pretty much utterly unexplained. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hum Anyone else have experience with this?

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

This makes sense. I guy I know is a video games sound designer as well as a Max hacker/moderately well-known ambient electronica artist and he's told me he uses Max at work occasionally.

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

Are you saying it's common for music software developers to prototype features in Max before creating the real versions using actual coding languages?
