    Dubstep

i dont think reynolds is "trolling" particularly, i just think he gos for the newer extreme sounds just because theyre popular. i mean, i dotn agree with him, mainly because when i go clubbing at dubstep nights i find the wobble stuff incredibly tedious etc, and the more techy rollin stuff much...

"The most forward-thinking D&B mix of the year" apparently

had sa listen, mwasnt so into it, the MC was pretty annoying, he music was different and in parts quite good (the more melodic/synthy bits) but most of the time it was veering towards a more steady IDM-ish glitch, not half as good as that d-bridge thing

    Hip Hop 09?

i really like the vocals in hyphy, mac dre and keek da sneek, to be honest thats what makes it sound different to other forms of hip hop. sometimes it does get a little close to eminem-style kookiness though. quite liking this <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie"...

    Clowns

Vice magazine need to send a slim, patronising reporter to this to point out to everyone in the big cities how "crazy" the whole thing is. i like the bit at the end, "people just like you". also quite glad that theres at least some black artists performing, was looking like it was gonna be...

    Dubstep

anyone hear those mp3s zomby put out a while ago of MIA mixed over Wiley's Ice Rink, or MIA's "Paper Planes" with some booty rap vocals over it? what did this remix sound like anyway, just a loop from the video made into the size of a whole song, or was there much else going on? if it was just...

When did dubstep lose the plot?

same with cockney thug, where the sample is taken from this pisstake cockney 'ardman character in an Armando Iannucci show... i dont mind chainsaw calligraphy so much, i mean its pretty shallow, but my main problem with wobble is the monotony of a whole set, coupled with the actuall physical...

Hall of Shame - pitiful events of immense embarrassment which you will never forget

ive done the radio rip thing, though luckily only with a friend, halfway through a track Kode9 starts talking about bird flu (i mean, not even swine flu...) my old prog/hardcore band played a hideous show at the start of a tour where halfway through the first track (quite a technical one)...

When did dubstep lose the plot?

i agree, i guss the wonky sound borders on lots of other genres, especially Flying Lotus, post J dilla hip hop, which has been going on since J Dilla (obviously), but i dont think this sound would have been bracketted with 140bpm dubstep stuff if it hadnt been for this sort of midrange reaction...

When did dubstep lose the plot?

does antone think that without "Wobble" bass dubstep there would be no wonky stuff, or rather the mid range synthy tones that go with "wonky" music wouldnt have been integrated into dubstep tempos/structures so much? i know a big factor was hyperdubs kinda introduction of chip tune into dubstep...

    Music you are prejudiced against

i used to be prejudiced against UK urband music, epecially garage, when i was 15 or so as a teenage metal fan growing up in croydon, mainly because of the tribal thing when your that age of liking a subculture and being against others, and also because all the people you met who were into garage...

    Industrial Music

from what i gather it was a term coined by throbbing gristle from their lable Industrial records (Industrial music for industrial people). i think simon reynolds or somone says some interesting things about it being an extension of psychedelic music/psychedelic ethics (TG were former commune...

    The Screwed & Chopped thread

have been listening to a lot of dj screw stuff, the two mixtapes i really recomend are "3 N' Da Morning" and "Only Rollin Red" (which has a 12 minute missy eliot jam on it, complete with completly fuckd beat clustery bits and scratch djing that sounds like retching). any chopped and screwed...
