i guess with low fidelidy digital audio, youve got low bitrate (bit crushing, chip tune) which can be used creatively quite satisfyingly, or you have low samplerate, which is more like youtube quality audio or poor mp3s. glitch i think is different as its more of a fault in the performing...

    Top 10 Records of 2010

Dem Hunger - Caveman Smack and Ariel Pink - Before Tomorrow are the two best i can think of, but it will require a lot of thinking as my memory is pretty rubbish. Ikonika, Actress, Dj Nate and Salem also, i reckon moon wiring and the shackleton fabric will be very good but havnt listened yet...

surely with these producers the only thing you can be sure of is what it DOESNT sound like, ie with a lot of producers they stick to the presets and as such you can recognise certain sounds cropping up again, but as soon as someones using samples then they really could be using anything. i also...

    visually compelling rap videos

i found this on the road rap thread, but im well into this video, aesthetically at the other end of the scale from the ghetto fabulous stuff, but the lofi mobile phone editing grittiness of this is really inspiring <param...

this was a year ago, and i didnt go unfortunatly, but it probably would have answered all of your questions... it was a series at the ica where artists recorded a track in a day, and people could watch everything they did http://www.ica.org.uk/Recording%20Studio+22282.twl there's a link there...

    Drag / witch house

a lot of this stuff seems to be cr33ping into the kinda post-dubstep mixes recently, namely the Becoming Real Fact mix and the Damu mix on Blackdowns blog... to be honest im pretty into Salem, i think the bandwagon accusations arent really founded as theyve been making the same kinda music for...

    bassline house

nike is a bit like psytrance for the post dubstep generation(...?), a big long proggy "journey", depends if you like that sort of stuff. i find that one interesting, not so into tilt shift or the gratuitous grime radio beef sample. i guess with nike i would probably look at the exact same audio...

    Shackleton

man, nothing darker then red dwarf and warhammer 40,000, we wouldnt last a second in either of those worlds... but seriously theres a lot of range for "darkness" in music, i mean compare black metal and whitehouse, completly opposing world views (complete fantasy and bleak mundane realism) and...

one thing im curious about in all this "innovators of footwork" debate is the whole formal thing of pitching the main backing samples up and down, somthing that DJ Nate does in pretty much every one of his songs but somthing i dont really here in most of the other tracks (rashad, spinn, arpebu...

its a bit of a shame, but a lot of the participation has turned into "real" releases and events, which is a good thing. but yeah, i guess once things solidify they seem less open as ideas and maybe there's less space for an outsider to interpret things. those tracks sound nice, pretty diverse...

    Kwaito resources?

yeah that heavyweight tune really stood out for me, with the pitchbent guitar sample... also dj storm sounded quite good, more electro-ish with the synths, i think on of the tracks is basically a remix of armand van helden dizzy rascal "bonkers"....

Rolling (though slowly, I'd imagine) Gaming Thread

just found out about this school through the portal 2 wikipedia page... https://www.digipen.edu/studentprojects/tag/ looks like a college that features game design, but among the free games to download (made by students) is Narbacular Drop, which is the game that became portal so to speak...

    Dubstep

surely this is alway what burial has been about anyway, and what makes him good, a sad reminder of utopias passed or never realised, and not even some 2005 dubstep dream but a more general rave euphoria that he was never a part of.
