Simon Reynolds talk on the Hardcore Continuum, 11/02/09, Liverpool

Perhaps someone could surreptitiously (or otherwise) video the event.

    RIP to another legend.

Maybe some ageing rockstars want to live alone.

    Price of a text ...

I never imagined it cost them very much at all, but I didn't realise that even the wireless portion of a text message transmission is basically done for free as part of the communication with the handset. Nice little earner innit. The US took a little longer to catch on / be suckered into...

    Radio Shows You Have Loved

The one-off's and takeover shows were often some of the best things on kiss. There's a great Weatherall and friends one from around 1993. I think the slot was called 'Giving It Up'.

Did anyone notice Stewart Home 'blogging' about similar things on myspace? http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=353159049&blogID=460421273 Experiments conducted by researcher Herbert Krugman reveal that when a person watches television, brain activity switches from...

    Radio Shows You Have Loved

I think Coldcut deserve a mention. Solid Steel on Kiss was excellent sometimes, especially when they got other people to do it. ;) Also Mixing It on Radio 3 used to crack me up. Those guys are on Resonance now.

    Radio Shows You Have Loved

I never caught Mike Alan's hiphop shows, but I did listen to his talk show on LBC in the early 90s, along with Robbie Vincent. Yeah it was quite funny to me that he started doing that. I imagined he was this hardcore hip-hop dude but apparently he wasn't really at first. It's clear he developed...

Steve Wright In The Afternoon on Radio 1, yeah I know. John Peel, of course. Mike Allen's hip-hop show on Capital. Colin Dale / Colin Faver on Kiss. Manasseh on Kiss. Gary Crowley on GLR. Chris Morris on GLR. 2006 Stella Sessions on Rinse. Rob Simone on Resonance. Epistaxis Time on Resonance.

No that's Claudio Simonetti. He was involved in quite a bit of Italian disco, some of it awesome. Giorgio Farina's 'Discocross' 12" is basically Goblin playing psychedelic funky disco, no surprise, they do this on their own records anyway. Actually seems to be going for acceptable prices as...

Innovative rhythm programming - wtf? moments

Did just listen to Solsbury Hill a bit and it's really sort of bars of 6+8 isn't it. Quite deceptive though with the constant pulse. Can's One More Night is the all time groover in 7 but there's a few more. I think lots of stuff layers 3s over 4s in a polyrhythmic way, anything with a lots of...

    Favourite jokes and one-liners.

Ah yes, one of my favourites - Q: Why did the monkey fall out of the tree? A: Because it was dead. Not forgetting, Q: Why did the baby cross the road? A: Because it was stapled to the chicken.

Innovative rhythm programming - wtf? moments

Yes that's right, the tempos may be the same but they'll go in and out of phase. Or you could actually layer them poly-rhythmically so the bars run for the same length of time. This is probably easier with software but it can be done. x-post with the ufo
