Johnny Rotten meets Tommy Vance uptown

I love that they went to the bother of those looped Pistols snippets and quotation collages - and in '77 this surely could only be done by cutting and splicing up tape. Rotten/Lydon doesn't mention Tosh/Legalise It anywhere, and Vance says that they'll wrap up with Can, which leads me to wonder...

Wasn't there talk of "mechstep" at one point? Doc Scott's Unofficial Ghost I think might have been an example (techstep but more mechanical or metallic than techno?) - and what a great track - possibly the best of that Rufige Kru Darkrider/Terminator lineage! Didn't Simon Reynolds invent...

Johnny Rotten meets Tommy Vance uptown

^^ - absolutely; he played the antisocial antichrist to the hilt for a while, but of course a major part of it it was pure pantomime. Interesting also where he says Bowie took a lot from Peter Hammill, but it sounds like he took a fair bit too - Nobody's Business could be a Pistols or PiL song...

    global financial crash yay!

In Dublin savers are camping outside Northern Rock, Wonderful Life stylee, to withdraw all savings, ignoring Downing Street's/Exchequer's underwriting guarantees.

    Celine and Julie Go Boating

Rivette's Out One was thirteen hours long, and shown only once I think, before he cut it down to four hours!

    Celine and Julie Go Boating

I think there's an inescapable influence there, given Lynch's love of, and habit of quoting from, cinema history, and the structural similarities - two women in a world which blurs fantasy and reality and involves the mysterious death of a girl/woman. Also worth considering is another Rivette...

If not capitalism then what exactly?

Pure capitalism - and also the ability to see it for what it is (- a system of exploitation and domination!) To open up a space to think about dismantling it, or at least imagine other ways of being? Unfortunately this whole debate is bi-polarised between Gek and HMLT talking to each other in...

Pointless But It Does My Head In

chastity belts! well, aesthetics/semiotics aside, it's mainly about reversing the last thing they were trying to sell, and looking back to the seventies - weren't the original bell-bottoms pretty high-waisted? and they could be a good solution for the side-effects of the low-cut: "muffin-top"...

    Abortion

Nomadologist has finally said it (something that I concluded years ago, after many debates like this) - it's none of our (men's) business ultimately; we can't get pregnant, accidentally or otherwise! Once you accept that, then surely you have to come down on the pro-choice side, whatever the...

New diplo mix and Pitchfork interview

This one uses software, as he says in the interview. (It's a little lacklustre, I wonder if the software thinned it all out a bit? The last time I listened to Sabbath's The Wizard it was a LOT punchier than this... pity he left out the breakbeat too...)

    sight vs. hearing

:) I'd broadly concur with Turtles; it's pretty obvious that sight can process multiple things very quickly and (almost) simultaneously - e.g. think of driving, where your eyes-brain can calculate oncoming car speeds, watch the speedometer, check the sky for weather, enjoy the landscape, look...
