    Susumu Yokota

Picked this up a few days ago. The quality of the track varies quite a bit, but its certainly an interesting idea. A few bits remind me of Lucky Pierre (now known as L.Pierre) who's done two albums on Melodic Records. If you're liking this Susumu Yokota album, it might be worth checking out...

r kelly's "trapped in the closet" suite

This is the funniest thing I have heard/seen on music television for ages. You can catch part one here with two and three available as audio. Still waiting for parts four and five! Some of the lyrics crack me up so much, my favourite bits probably being when he asks about going out the window...

VICE magazine's G. MacInnes in The American Conservative

On a slightly related, but kinda unrelated note, did Sugar Ape magazine from Nathan Barley (the series from Channel 4) make anyone think of Vice? The inside of the office is exactly how I imagine Vice to be, together with the not-quite-sure-if-its-ironic shock tactics, such as rebranding the...

chav--explain to a confused expatriate please

There was a bit of a discussion about Happy Slapping in a thread in the music folder linked here. There's some very interesting reading in there.

    The Edukators

Film forum seems to be quite quiet at the moment, so just thought I'd drop a post bout this film The Edukators that came out recently. Very interesting German film, which deals with the changing politcal views people have over the course of their lives. The film focuses on three young political...

Not music per se, but grime-related...

Found that article quite interesting. The media are often liable to jump on a bandwagon and exaggerate a phenomenon like this. Another example would be the emergence of "toothing". Although a completely fabricated idea, the media were pleased to show new technology being used for sexually...

    Bullet boy

I think the first 15 minutes of Sweet Sixteen was subtitled to get you into the swing of it and then they disappeared. I don't think Sweet Sixteen needed subs and I doubt that enough people have trouble understanding Bullet Boy to make it worth the effort. Surely it would just become distracting?

    Leeds Heads in Here?

Think that one's down at Rehab. Might be missing it too unfortunately, looks like a pretty big line up. All you Leeds Heads need to know that Crash records have got some Grime in. Check out the G-Hop Volume 2 compilation. Its got some hot tracks on: D Double E (Signal), No Lay, Kano, Kyza...

    Downfall

Its interesting that you pick that out as the major flaw of the film, as it is the only thing I thought didn't seem quite right as well. Apart from that it is indeed a wonderful piece of film. It was the creation of atmosphere that I thought was the strongest area. It did a good job of...

    Bullet boy

Caught this in Birmingham today. It impressed me, which is no small feat given the amount of hype the press has given it. Didn't actually seem to be that much Massive Attack in the soundtrack. What there was sounded quite subtle and won't spoil the film if you're not a fan of their new stuff...

    Bullet boy

Hoping to catch this film sometime next week. Looks like an interesting film and also has new material from Massive Attack on the soundtrack. So far it has recieved lots of positive press and stands out amoungst the Easter Holiday tat thats being shown at the moment (Be Cool, Valiant etc).

What was the last musical moment that gave you a physical rush....

Saturday night at the Medicine Bar in Birmingham: Seiji from Bugz in the Attic dropped their refix of Fela Kuti's Zombie, followed by IG Culture's remix of Sov's Random, which promptly got pulled back twice.... big.

    Lost classic LPs of late

Londinium by Archive - An album very much on a "trip-hop" tip. Its a bit Massive Attack, a bit Portishead and much better than most of the "trip-hop"-lite and chill-out such as Morcheeba that was around at the time. Download the title track Londinium and So Few Words to see what everyones been...

Unbelievable : le grime débarque à Paris !

Picked up that TTC "Batards Sensibles " the other week - its good stuff. The beats are very similar to what you hear in UK Grime. Do you know if it was a conscious choice to do the Grime sound, or more of an accident, with influences coming from Crunk etc...?

    9 Songs

Yeah I pretty much agree with what's already been said, it was a very weak film. The little acting that there was came across quite ropey but it was the gig scenes that were particularly disappointing. It seemed that he was trying to capture the feeling of being in the crowd, but it just looked...

    What happened to these bands?

Rival Schools split up I think, leaving behind just United by Fate and some E.P. I don't own. Pretty sure Magoo were on tour recently. Check out this page. Think I heard somewhere that My Vitriol were gonna be back with a new album, although the last I heard of them was towards the end of...
