    another shut shop - trackheadz

well not exactly, the access all areas (trackheadz) on kentish town rd, is moving on-line. They were selling vinyl 40% off today. They used have some really odd stuff in there if you looked hard. Another real shop down gone. :(

Listening list for an electronic music class

what are you trying to teach your students, no one seems to have asked this? Playing 'important' tracks means nothing if you haven't got defined concepts of why they're important. Dance music get's messy because it's clearly not just about the music and technology ;) The overiding point...

Breezeblock Dubstep Warz on Radio 1

i don't doubt her enthusiasm and it's great that's been exposed on a national forum, it's just her on air persona is like some marks & spenser advert :D yes it's silly to compare with resonance, our 'reach' is small in terms of being a local station/small audience but the actual no. of 'live'...

Breezeblock Dubstep Warz on Radio 1

enjoyed this , especially the DJs talking about their beats. I can't see how Mary Ann Hobbs is helping, she comes across terribly like some irritating PR woman. Trying to ride this 'breaking scene.' I always chuckle as most of the newish acts she's had on have been through...

george galloway on celebrity big brother

sucked in i'll have to will myself to stay away from this tripe. Like the last series, which thankfully i managed to avoid most of, there is this surreal shot of George Galloway working out with Michael Barrymore  The last series had Bez consoling Germaine Greer. Once you 've...

    Drugs and music appreciation

probably my rediscovery of drum'n'bass was standing in an arch in elephant & castle coming down off an E surrounded by an amazing crowd, alot of whom were euro-crusties, and thinking this is bloody London, this music is our bloody music, made here. any of that hyper music from gabba to stupid...

    Laptop vs. traditional turntable djing.

traktor is quite popular here in London, i've seen quite a few well knowns names use it. get yerself a half decent sound card, although frankly apple's own sound in/out will do for sticking tunes in yer gonna 'play out' . There's loads of little software audio recorders, i use Amadeus just...

    Derek Bailey RIP

dead derek haven't heard a whiff of press about this, maybe coz it's xmas, definitley the most pivotal UK figure in improvised music. His trio with Bryars & Oxley (Joseph Holbrooke) was the grounding for the english improv scene. No doubt Ben Watson will be jumping up and down about it in the...

What happened to the Chemical Brothers\Fatboy Slim\DaftPunk

Not for DaftPunk who seem immune to fashion but the other 2 should really have reinvented themselves to stay current. FBS used to use many different names but carrying on with the persona is a mistake with that kind of music. I think the Chems bombed shortly after they became famous. I mean...

    Resonance104.4FM - 5 yr licence granted

Dunno whether someone has mentioned this already but we've finally got our 5yr licence. See more here> Ofcom announcement Although we seem to have succeeded, which is great, no new licences have been issued in London? :( which is a disaster for all the other groups which applied. Ofcom...

    Skype

i think what's interesting , just as the internet was initially used by IT folk to send updates and software around Skype is an excellent tool for programmers to talk and discuss code, talking and typing is a great means of communication when trying to troubleshoot software. But i'm sure with...

    Ofcom's Raids

It's seem feasible technically, transmitter overtone frequencies maybe? I doubt most pirates are a problem though , i mean if it was such a problem why do vibes & lightning go on broadcasting for so many years unhindered?
