GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

Wiley is on point. I think he's better than he has been since 2003. Parts of his tunnel vision tracks and the anti-movement war dub are simply incredible. Reminds me of the old days with him and dizzee, gods gift and slimzee. Wiley is BACK, nobody can deny it. He's so far ahead of any other...

    Red Sparowes/Pelican/Isis/Khanate

Certainly not minor key dominated if you listen to the other end of the prog metal spectrum. i.e. blind guardian, dreamtheatre, steve vai etc There is another strain of prog-ish metal which includes offshoots from black metal and death metal, much of which should float your evil boat. Arctrus...

    Badly Recorded Music

The entire Misfits back catalogue. Less than stellar sound quality, but the lack of quality emphasises the pure energy and brilliant melodies. Great example of recordings that are fit for purpose. Same goes for Robert Johnson. The poor sound quality is definitely a large part of why I love his...

    kode 9 and spaceape album

Bass is just high-frequency rhythm. Rhythm is just low fequency bass. Dubstep's building a bridge between the two.

Sounds like a Whitehouse gig I saw a few years ago! Could hardly walk afterwards.

It does depend what you like, but my picks would be: Neurosis - Through Silver And Blood Isis - Oceanic If you like the more brutal/textured side of things, investigate Godflesh. Jesu's self titled may be worth a listen too. Great album.

GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

Generally I listen to grime to get away from tunes like I'm On Point, but Crash Bandicoot is truly excellent!

if I only download one thing from Barefiles

"Rinse FM - DJ Slimzee, Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, Godsgift, Dirty Doogz & Dog-Z 24-Nov-2002" Damn that's my favourite era right there. Slimzee on point with the best minimalist synthy riddims with wiley and dizzee in fantastic form on the mic. Wish there was more of this vibe around these days!

I haven't heard much discussion of Benga's "Newstep" album. Anybody who's heard it want to offer their thoughts?

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

Listen closesly and you'll hear that it is exactly the same break, chopped up, rearanged and perhaps timestretched/pitchshifted. Even the "trademark" warmth and background crackle is lifted from Teardrop. Nothing against Massive Attack OR Burial, but it annoys me a bit.

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

Cue up Massive Attack's "Teardrops" straight after "Prayer" and see what happens...

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

I'd much rather "Prayer" wasn't on there. Prefer less obvious Massive Attack references thanks very much. (or did massive attack sample the same source and I'm not aware of it?)

    Burial interview @ Blackdown/Burial album

ambientstep. Seriously though, the breezeblock burial mix is one of the most exciting things I've heard in the last couple of years. So Hypnotic. That last tracks is extremely large. My copy was dispatched down to oz today. I'm waiting...

Why are there no good UK metal/hard rock bands anymore..

Another vote for Jesu here. The new EP is a little less heavy, and a little more melodic than the album. I agree it's a very fertile area. New album later in the year also. Simplistic mathematical explanation: Godflesh + Swans + MBV + The Cure = Jesu.

    Game related music

Anyone else heard the We Love Katamary soundtrack? Not quite as good as the original, but still contains some great stuff, including Dokaka's acapella/beatbox version of the main theme. Also contains a stormin house track called Disco Prince which sounds a LOT like Daft Punk (maybe it IS?)

    Favourite, most UPLIFTING songs

Off the top of my head. No doubt this would change if I did it again tomorrow... You say "songs," so I'll skip the dance and classical music... James Brown - It's a New Day (never fails to get me on the dance floor. too funky) 311 - Visit (I just love this chorus. Reminds me of californian...
