benga - diary of an afro warrior

as I understood it, the tunes were written by Artwork & Benga, but that's just what I've been told so I am happy to be corrected in this respect. The live show is all three - the Arts Council bought them all laptops so they could do a PA. info for the Bristol gig...

benga - diary of an afro warrior

actually in my previous post I was on about the Magnetic Man live tour - Artwork, Skream and Benga on 3 laptops. I was just being cagey as I didn't know if it was common knowledge at the time. Anyways it's in the public domain now and their tour starts next month I think. :) back on topic...

benga - diary of an afro warrior

dunno about a techno LP specifically, but I hear of an interesting collabo coming in the new year.

    Dubstep

Landslide's still about, although that Splurt tune is pretty old. Wish they'd released the more upbeat Skream version, it's a lot better than the halfstep one that came out on Halo. Anyways, yea Tim started a family about 2 1/2 years ago but has been back on the tunes recently, and his...

all the reggae/dancehall DJs I know tell me the technical term is "thingie".

    Dubstep

gotta be honest I don't agree. I know these are old dubs but Tony's still battering the old sound, he's really not developed as much as I thought he would in the past 12-18 months. His 4/4 pieces aren't that well produced imo, the kicks don't sit well in the mixdowns. The only one of the five I...

    Underwater Dancehall

most of the beats were written first, then vocalled later. If the tracks had been written with the vocalists I'm sure there would have been more congruency in the songs, but that's the limitation of the way Pinchy chose to work. I think some of the vocal tracks work really well, Get Up is a...

    Dubstep

lol, Pinch had "Dubstep, Grime & Underwater Dancehall" on the front of a flyer for an old Subloaded party (his six-monthly big dubstep rave) and had all sorts of people asking what kind of music Underwater Dancehall was. I guess they're just about to find out.

    Divas 'n Bass

the LP version of Maintain by Krust (feat. Morgan) is a top vocal tune, the backing is so completely abstract for most of the tune. Off the V Classics LP from 97.

    french hiphop help!

haha it's not my mix mate, by some dude called Totomaster - I just DLed it a while back and mirrored it on megaupload. Do share it though, it's great. I'm a big fan of French HH cos of the way they sample - a slight taste for the dramatic in places.

    Dubstep

yea I was gonna mention them even tho they had a release cos Galleon Dub is so old. Their newer stuff is great, a real cohesive vibe from tune to tune, although they do use a similar soundset a lot of the time. Plenty more releases to come from them in the future...

    Shackleton remixing Simian Mobile Disco

ah, didn't realise you commissioned the mix, shame it didn't see the release. Will have to squeeze Pinchy for a copy.

    Dubstep

I'd say Migrant from Spain is pretty damn good - his tune No Name is superb, I thought it was Kode 9 first time I heard it.

    Vinyl Pressing: Tips and Specs

just gonna weigh and say: a) I can heartily recommend Henry who runs www.dubstudio.co.uk - he's enthusiastic about his work, pushes the medium as far as he can, and gets great results. I've been cutting dubs with him for over a year and have never been disappointed - if I was, Henry would...

Cotti - Sensi Dub.... oh dear...

yea he's got some good new ones, linking Techo in particular. Been caning one called Spiro on our show which is one of his best yet imo, still using a lot of the same grooves and bass sounds, but developing his ideas further, introducing some more interesting samples too. That's Henry &...
