DJs who cant mix tend to not end up getting booked though. DJs who put together one dimensional sets also tend not to get booked outside of club residencies.
I don't really agree in the practise of widespread producer djs. They are good as a novelty to add flavour to a night. But when they...
Producers being booked as DJs is always a problem. They aren't DJs they are beat makers. It's the same reason Drum n Bass got very dull.
There are still a fair few specialist DJs in Dubstep though surely?
I really try not to. I do sporadically when artists are pushing them as singles or lead tracks from mixtapes. I certainly don't ever play them as instrumentals.
Dizzee's record is getting some great mainstream exposure. It certainly is getting the budget to justify it. He really has left now...
Due to some irregularities at the pressing plant and them taking 2 weeks to actually inform us about it....
Soul Food 1 should be June 18th. If it isn't in your local HMV, they can order it for you from their central depot.

Oh and regarding garage people releasing tracks through the mainstream without majors....
Funnily enough that VERY THING resulted in exactly the same situation as you had mentioned in the Hyphy article.
People like Sticky or Artful Dodger would license their track to a larger garage label. And...
Grime's problems come fro the cultural problems of those who make it.
They all dream of being rich. But have no idea how it will happen. And the idea of being comfortable, even though that is WAY above their current financial status, doesn't seem to be enough motivation.
However, that does not...
That's all I ask for.
I have no victim complex about the big bad evil man. I just see so much fucking waste and moronic A&Ring going on it upsets me because I want to see this music I love out there for people to access.
There won't be a Run The Road 3 because it cost them too much money.

I have never once ventured into anything in Grime that has lost money. Never.
The worst I have ever done is made about £200...
