straight edgers on richrd and judy

i am slightly amazed that dissensus has grazed into this topic. straight edge has pretty much died out in the US punk scene it seems, with most of the main crop of current hardcore bands that were straight edge (primarily located in boston) broke edge a few years back. also most of the east...

    Backwards?

i just don't think the average american music listener will be into it, at least not in its current form. lets face it, there really is not an extremely marketable quality about most of the artists. much less so from an american point of view. there would have to be radical changes for it...

    DJ Godfather (re: ghetto-tech)

any word on those mixes guys? very eager to hear them.

    Backwards?

so you know, it was mainly hipsters and scenesters that are into dizzee in the states. also with run the road coming out on vice suggests as well that is where grime's market in the states is. i don't see grime having a huge impact in the african american community in the states any time...

    sa-ra creative partners

i think the potential for them to be fantastic is clearly there. they just need to come into their own a bit and really find their sound.

    DJ Godfather (re: ghetto-tech)

thats exactly the thing! when i asked to all my DC/Baltimore/Philly kids about b-more club they just pointed me towards 'databass', but at the same time i keep hearing about it as somewhat of a different genre. there was an article in the village voice (i believe) with diplo and him talking...

    DJ Godfather (re: ghetto-tech)

oh thanks bassnation. i saw that godfather thread and tried to listen to the mix but it was down. could you remind me when you do get that back up? i am very eager to hear that, it got quite a lot of positive feedback on that thread.

    DJ Godfather (re: ghetto-tech)

yeah i have and i quite like it. whilst on the subject, where is the line between baltimore club/breaks and ghetto-tech? totally lost.

    DJ Godfather (re: ghetto-tech)

Is DJ Godfather pretty much the best 'ghetto-tech' dude out there? I feel like i am missing something. Most other stuff i hear (mainly other stuff on the Databass label) doesn't really bounce as well as godfather. Help me out if you decide me ignorant.

Lady Sovereign - the Grime test

to be fair, if grime really does get some serious heat behind it, Sov will be a very faint blip on the radar of offensive 'fake' grime artists. She will look like old school in 5 years. She just happens to be the first 'accident' in the genre as a result of capitalism. Not that she isn't...

    Bloc Party album out today

i think its cool to like whatever you want obviously. but, there should be a line drawn between what is ACTUALLY GOOD and what is just FUN TO LISTEN TOO. these are two different things. If i was out drinking at a bad pub/club (there are no good pub/clubs in edinburgh) and i was drunk and a...

    Pitchfork reviews Run the Road

well thats good news for all you london grime heads. now when you want to sell all of your grime white label shit in 5 years you can retire because armies of american indie kids will be trying to catch up on culture they had previously missed out on.

How representative is 'Aim High Vol. 2'?

in terms of grime obviously. Also if you would say not very please suggest something more on target (no pun intended) i really really like aim high vol. 2

    Madvillain?

A ton of american indie kids (who are not usually into Hip/Hop, Rap, whatever) latched onto it. This might be part of the reason for this 'certain' release to have gotten so much press last year.
