Understandable, but with a band like the Residents I think you take your risks and just jump in - compared to most of the bands in post-punk, the Residents have one of largest sets of recorded output. Take into the fact that Third Reich and Roll doesn't come cheap (in fact - nothing by them is...
Manchester, England is a pretty good book. It spends a fair amount of time looking at the City's cultural and political background (something of interest to me as a Mancunian, but possibly not to anyone else.
Wouldn't want to read the Bez book (major pitch - his wife apparently "wrote all the...
The one thing all the attention, bickering and everything has made me feel decidedly is that I don't want to hear this album, or anything more about it. It may be good, I am sure it isn't lifechanging, and all this discussion makes my head hurt.
Rather than a top ten, it is more the things that have been near my stereo over the past few weeks.
1. Akala w. Jammer, Riko… - Roll wid us
This has been on near repeat play since the start of the year. I can’t put my finger on exactly what has caught me so much on this yet, but it is getting...
It is a bit of a lumbering beast with vast quotes, but I guess it is a sign that some people are enjoying the discussion. I think Stelfox's theory is best. Unless it is provoking serious arguement and conflict that will be unresolvable, then leave it lumbering on.
I haven't read it, although...
Not wanting to sound all negative, but couldn't you just keep an ongoing Leeds thread for announcements? It is bugging me for some reason (which OBVIOUSLY is a good enough reason!!)
Hope it goes well Distinction.
Jonson is vastly overrated. By virtue of the Speicher series I now own my first track by him - I have seen anything in the previous 12"s, other than an awful lot of hype. My completist ways with Speicher aside, I still wouldn't.
The whole Kompakt thing for me has revolved around the Speicher...
Misc - Flow Control
Jeremy P Caulfield's Trapez and Dumb Unit 12"s
Milo - M.Case (ages ago, kompakt distributed)
Otherwise it has gone a bit quiet at the moment. I think the effect of all the "big" albums last year has caused a bit of a dip - more the time to be listening to Alva Noto and...
The point wasn't as such that you would need £1000 k-punk, but thanks for the misquoting. I am sure you can live anywhere in London for any amount of money. The idea of looking for a flat on your own with a low budget is more you find out where your budget puts you. If you name a figure circa...
You'd do well to find anywhere within budget in Clapham nowadays - full of city types. Rumour has it you need to show a girl your CV in pubs in Clapham to get a date...
Probably not - London is expensive. Look up North on the Northern Line. Might be some stuff up there, but you are talking zone 3/4. You would be able to get in on tube time 40 mins - but you have to consider the walk to the station, frequency of trains, etc etc
You would have to look out...
I think - "why not ska?" is a difficult question. I can't see them having any problem listening to Jackie Mitto if you put it on, or a hell of a lot of other stuff.
If you are talking "why not suits, skinny ties and pork pie hats".... :p
I think this reflects my point on Stelfox's "world music" thread. It is anything to seem a bit more cultured, normally tapped onto having recently been travelling while the rest of the world has been working. Normally you will look into the deepest, darkest eyes at the mention of double seven...
My first thought, as someone who is currently working in London, living out in Kent (but looking to move in) - £600-£650 a month I would be more leaning towards getting a flatshare rather than a one bedroom flat.
Interesting to see what other folks say. For me, 95% of my decision will be based...
Urusei Yatsura have definitely split up. Some of them are in another band together (can't remember the name off-hand) which is pretty similar from what I hear.
I would expect My Vitriol have gone the same way as many a band of teenagers touted by the NME that didn't cut it.
