rolling back to the future garage/post-dubstep/alt-funkstep/intelli-2step etc thread

I think this sound is actually on a verge of becoming much bigger. I went to a Mad Decent night last night. One of the warm up DJs played loads of the music discussed in this thread and the people there were pretty into it. There were a few cheers when "Wut" dropped. To put that into...

Yeah - it was kinda odd, but worth it to hear the music and see the dancers. They put the work in and made the best of the situation. That's just what Brighton is like, unfortunately. Some stuff pulls numbers, most stuff doesn't. I'm just grateful that people keep trying.

    Vinyl dying (for DJ's)

I think it's just a case of "something's got to give". Over a fairly short period of time, it's gone from: 2 decks and a mixer to 2 decks, 2 CDJs and a mixer to 2 decks, 2 of the right kind of CDJs and a mixer Add into this the fact that people are plugging and unplugging phono cables all the...

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

I'd say that a rinser is something hectic and exciting. A hype tune. A roller is usually more restrained, with a less dynamic arrangement (i.e. no big drops, builds or crazy drum chops). I would describe Pulp Fiction as a roller, for example.

I haven't really kept track of Timbaland's movements recently. This one caught my ear though. Good to hear Missy back: Take Your Clothes Off Warped (not so keen on this one)

Thanks. Maybe a bit too pop for this thread though, I guess. The vocalist is called Stac. There's a whole album of remixes out today with mine included:

In "I Believe In You" he sings "I've seen heroin for myself". But I recall reading something that suggested perhaps a relative had been an addict rather than Mark Hollis himself.

I think this is certainly true. Also - ALL music sounds better loud. ALL music seems more important / exciting when you're in a room full of people who are also enjoying it.

    Hyphy vs Jerkin

The volume of new tracks seems to have slowed down a bit. At least, it has in the places where I used to hear about things. I think maybe the tracks and acts that were predicted to blow up didn't & the big money moved on? The Rangers seem to be going for a more trad. Hip Hop sound. Don't...
