You could also make a decent case for straight forward toasting, Juakali is pretty adept at crowd control + decent rhymes.

Just an aside, I think its odd that Stelfox who is the quintessential reggae fan, and Tim who is incredibly knowledgeable about 2- step, Both dislike dubstep. It either too respectful, (ie too conservative) or too oblivious of its actual roots (too experimental). But not enough of...

For a beautiful example of techno sounding dubstep, you cannot go wrong with D1. The guys a sleeping giant of a producer. One of these days everything that gets said about Skream (next Aphex Twin, blah, blah, genius, blah) is probably going to be true about D1. Beautiful stuff.

Will GRIME ever make it in America?

Well I was kind of hoping that some of the "hordes of the midwest" might get it. Might be easier to get gigs that way.

Two dubs to keep an eye out for, Summer Dreams by the Digital Mystikz and Harpoon by Scuba. I think that you may be pleasantly surprised, (or incredibly turned off). Lounge dubstep almost.

Well there is definitely a lot of "macho-nonsense" but there is a also a lot of just plain E-d up weirdness. Its really fun, strange music. Some of it is totally hardcore rap, and some of the songs are just about getting stupid. Its the mix of the two that interests me, but I'm a lot more...

Records-wise I'd be happy with anything from say 88 post acid house to the present day.

Seriously though, you should check some of this stuff out. E-40s totally in the tradition of Digital Underground/Too-Short. He's stayed true to the West Coast electro sound, along with G-Funk, for his entire career. This recent stuff stays in that vein.

    chicago house nowadays

Could anyone give me some pointers for Deep House records, either that or NY garage? I know a bit about Levan, Frankie Knuckles, and their relationship to techno and house. I'm looking for good records with that kind of deep techno sounding synths, but also with vocals. I know that House...

DUBSTEP- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

At Dub War 4 I watched Joe Nice drop Conference, the place went nuts, I was to busy doing my little skank to really notice that the guys at the front of the stage were bouncing. It all depends on the energy of the night and the DJ.

The stuff he did with Jay Da as Ghost is prime. Particularly like The Spooks. That is like the cornerstone of the dubstep sound right there.

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

Far as I know, platter pushing is when you're beat matching. You physically push the LP to slightly increase its BPM. This pitches the record up, but not as much as going from 33 to 45 rpm. Any actual DJs feel free to correct me.

Good blog for Bay Shit http://strivin.blogspot.com/ Man knows what he's talking about. I was hopin that we could get the Megatron talking about this stuff. He's a Grime DJ in San Fran, I know he's got to have heard some of it. Speaking of Murder Dog...
