    Drum'n'bass 98-99

interesting blogpost and interesting blog (y) but I did notice this: Personally I can't think of anything less therapeutic than to be stuck on a desert island with Morrissey's bleating.

    Drum'n'bass 98-99

Hmmmm. Say rather that the drums are not talking to the other elements in the same way as D'Cruze or Dillinja. In Convoy they're mostly laying down a beat. But the abstracty gaseous sounds are not gesture, they're central to the music. No one did this back then like Matrix. (Which was why his...

    Drum'n'bass 98-99

I disagree. I think dnb was largely still producing quality music in 1998/99. It was towards the end of 99 and into 2000, concurrent with the rise of Bad Company, that so much of it became tedious banging.

    Drum'n'bass 98-99

Only if all you care about is the bottom end. Apart from the drumwork, there's hardly anything going on in that track. Don't get me wrong. I love the stripped back stuff. Like early Full Cycle where all it was was a couple of breaks, a rudimentary bassline and a sample or two. Hugely radical...

    Drum'n'bass 98-99

It was released in Feb 1998, so very likely. I just went by release date on Discogs.

    JG Thirlwell string quartets

These are surprisingly decent. They clearly owe a lot to Bartok, but that can only be a good thing to my ears (y)

The Republican War on Transgender People, Drag Queens, and Queerness in General

First off, "gender ideology" is a strawman. It doesn't represent what trans people actually think either about themselves or about gender, which in my experience tends to be very feminist. Indeed, elsewhere "gender ideology" is primarily used to hate on feminists. Similarly, "trans activism" is...

The Republican War on Transgender People, Drag Queens, and Queerness in General

As to that, I'm minded of the words of radical feminist Catherine MacKinnon: "Many transwomen just go around being women, who knew, and suddenly, we are supposed to care that they are using the women’s bathroom. There they are in the next stall with the door shut, and we’re supposed to feel...
