Good USB interface for DJing with Live

You should be able to get something for around £100. I wouldn't recommend anything beringher or edirol, tapco stuffs usually ok (mackies, cheapo brand) The m-audio stuff sounds ok, but it wont last, Mine blew up after about years worth of use. If you can stretch to it Native Instruments Audio...

books: sci-fi by non genre authors

I haven't read any Vonnegut in ages, I'll have to give him another look, On a side note, can you recommend any Octavia E. Butler? seems like she had a fairly unique take on the genre, been meaning to read some for a while now.

I'm heading there this weekend, I've scoured the other berlin threads knocking around and have a loose plan of what i'm going to get up to during me stay, but can anyone recommend anywhere to eat? I read somewhere east-Berlin has a big Turkish community? I'm very partial to Turkish/middle...

    Dubstep

loefah sort of created his own space, he added so much physicality to the the low-end in his tunes by burying it in its own acoustic space, the percussion always seemed to be given the same amount of attention as every other element, so it never seemed just functional, how the sparse elements...

    Dubstep

their seems to be a slew of striped down well engineered and very functional, halfstep tunes at the moment, dnb producers like chase and status and kryptic minds etc. seem to take a more by numbers approach to building beats which leaves me cold. Loefah to be fair reduced his palette down too...

Innovative rhythm programming - wtf? moments

I have issues with unconventional time signatures, I think its the 'difficult' mueso pretensions of math rock or anything knowingly 'progressive' I don't doubt its hugely interesting to the musically competent, but is often sonically rather dull to the untrained ear. Weirdly i don't have a...

    Early digi reggae

Very good point, puts me in mind of a conversation I had with a long serving and respected reggae music journalist a few years back, he referred to it as the 'the island records effect' he thought the label basically created a myth for marketing purposes that all good JA music was recorded...

I know you can use toast to convert flac to wav for all mac users out there Regarding the mp3 compression thing, you can really notice it with certain types of music, we did a load of podcasts a while back and we noticed, that drum and bass really suffered, when compressed, something to do with...

320 Mp3 vs. Wav vs. FLAC

320's do sound a bit quiet on a rig in my experience, so its something to bear in mind when moving between vinyl and mp3's, they are a compromise, but if its a choice between not playing an mp3 because the tunes a stupidlyrare/unrealeased/or you dont have a spare 30 quid to cut a track to dub...

Producers: presets or four days perfecting a snare?

When it comes to the sound designy stuff I still think trent moeller is really good even if some of his music is a bit wallpapery at times. Theres alot of depth there.
