Producers: presets or four days perfecting a snare?

I use logic 8 (a lot of people seem to mix in this even if they make beats in fruity or whatever) the effects and automation are excellent for giving mixes dimension. People swear by ableton, the sound quality is fantastic apparently, when you rewire from reason. But I've never really had much...

Producers: presets or four days perfecting a snare?

I work more often with samples so I think the most important thing is to start of with good quality sounds, (such as decent quality multi-samples) these can be presets, free samples for magazines, classic synth or drum machine samples. I've tried beat digging but, I don't find it any more...

Narcossist - he's just gone next level

an intriguing producer, who's tracks always stand out due to there lack of band wagon jumping, i've been really rating his beats since his renegade snares remix, dry toke etc. good to see his sounds kept developing, the production values keep getting better and better. With solid mixdowns like...

    ableton tutorial

the music tech magazines often run special 'getting started with ableton' issues (music tech, future music etc.) with tutorials in, but to be honest though.. the getting started 'using live for djing' tutorial in ableton is as good for teaching the basics. oh- make sure you've got a sound...

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

hidden was dreadful i thought, not just because the bourgeois characters seemed either bland or dislikable but most of all becuase the story wasn't resolved. Director: Look how I can use the mechanism of a thriller to drive this story forward, wait the characters are so uninteresting the...

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

I really didn't enjoy this, I really can't get on with david cronenberg movies though, people seem to behave in a cringe worthy ways, minor things are always way over the top, the characters always seem poorley developed unrealistic and hard to emphathise with.
