    Drugs and music appreciation

Music and sex are my only drugs. I get so lost in them, so high on them without narcotic substances that I don't think I could handle it if they actually "improve" things. I don't drink, smoke, drug, etc. because that'd be that much less money I could spend on music. I never have, and I doubt...

    woebot's 100 greatest records ever

Can't say I've ever read much of Woebot's writing before, and I don't think I read about music in general a tenth as much as the folk around here--but while I could quibble with order and particular selection, I've never seen a list that as perfectly reflected my own priorities in listening...

    Underground NDW 1980-1983

Good stuff all around. I'd be curious what he thinks of Neonbabies. To me, they're the DNW band with the most moxy. I think you could easily make at least a 3-disc set of bands/tracks of that calibre. Is Germanic (not just from Germany) stuff usually included under the DNW arch?

Links will be going out of effect in a couple days, so I thought I'd bump just in case. (that's the second set of links)

    A lifetime spent on Music

I'm fairly certain it qualifies as an addiction in a literal sense. But frankly, I'm ok with it. It's not hurting my health, I don't have any other "vices" (no drugs, no smokes, no alcohol, etc.) and I don't really buy anything else but food, and I can freely "push" the drug of choice without...

    A lifetime spent on Music

~2800 CDs, though I've traded in/sold about 500 of those. Most shows have been quite inexpensive, I can't imagine they add up to much. I'd imagine I'm already past that supposed average. Sad part--I'm only 25.

Hmm, not sure how that's happening. I think if you right click the "download now" link and choose "save as," it'll save to disk. . . . . . unless the YSIs have expired. Yeah, I'll up the final version later today or tomorrow when I'm home from the office.

It might be. I got it from one of those reissues of the old Nonesuch Explorer records. Your mix sounds very cool. Moody and dark weren't really what I was going for, exactly, though certain sequences are probably those things. This music (mostly) makes me really happy, but I might just be...

Also, this mix is also kindof about how music is my drug--I don't do any other drugs, smoke, drink, etc. because music and sex pretty much do it for me.

Making mixes is how I relax, after the average 9-10hr workday. This mix took sporadic moments over the course of a few months to put together.

It seems to still be up. I have made a few changes, though--I can put up the new versions if anyone likes. Disc 01 01 Brian Eno - Unfamiliar Wind (1982) 02 Dave Brubeck - Fujiyama (1964) 03 Can - Spray (1973) 04 Bob Marley - Them Belly Full (1974) 05 Yoko Ono - Greenfield Morning (1970)...

Thanks, all. The story is just the sound I was after, I guess--trying to pinpoint this certain production style, atmosphere, texture, feeling that seems to hit me deeper (or at least more consistantly) than any other. An emphasis on the percussive, rhythmic (even if piano, not necessarily...

Dylan: I just don't get it, and I never will

I love everything up through 'Bringin it All Back Home,' like 'New Morning' and 'Nashville Skyline,' hate all the long-winded "poetic" rock stuff.

    headphones

For over-the-ear, quick-on-and-off I use Senn HD 200s. They've served me well the last few years--basically unbreakable (esp. because of the detachable cable), relatively light, sound fine. For travelling I use Shure E2c's. Least expensive intro to the canalphone realm, and they sound quite...

Portishead 'Dummy' - has it aged well?

I got rid of this record years ago, but hearing bits lately I've thought about picking it up again from a used bin. I remembered it negatively, as mainly atmosphere and "cool," but it seems like maybe there was more thought put into it than I recognised then.

Later With Jools Holland - your favourite memories

Don't know if this counts, but I was at the taping (or partial live broadcast, I guess it was) of Radiohead in 2001, just before the release of 'Amnesiac'. I'm not a huge fan of what they've been doing the last few years, but it was a genuinely fun show. Usually I'm turned off by joiners and...

    whatever happened to Mark Hollis?

Weirdly, I think there was a thread here about this within the last couple weeks. Apparently, he's become a mystic Christian and has given up music. Very sad. Just got a copy of the O'Rang CD for $7 today, in a semi-related useless note.

Cluster & Eno back in print!

The Harmonia record with Eno isn't half bad, either. No idea if it's in print, though. What I want to know is when will Cluster '71 be back in print. . .
