BareBones, unfortunately HHB is PARTICULARLY bad when it comes to playing about a million dubs and being indifferent to the prospect of ever releasing them. Really you gotta listen to his radio shows or sets by him and Dubplate Wonder (ocassionally billed as the duo "d&b" - which is a bit...

I actually don't think that Fact writers have a bias along those lines Tom - and if there was one it wouldn't be against ill blu etc. - just that there's a lot more coverage of the one type over the other. The articles I've complained about have been XLR8R/Urb/Guardian not FACT I don't think...

Or just send someone chasing after Devine Collective/Mad One! That DJWeeksey/MCBandit set Luka linked to has a bunch more awesome tracks from them, including some that are familiar but I hadn't ID'd before. This takes their classic track count to ridiculous levels: - House Girls Part One -...

Dubstep got nothing but air for five-six years from this "infrastructure of upmarket club nights," so it didnt just happily come into creation and fit in. Yes I should have acknowledged this - my point is not to complain about that infrastructure but to say that it'd be wrong to draw...

NB. "upmarket club nights" is the wrong term - I mean high-profile club nights usually attached to labels and a significant internet presence, with strong visual aesthetics, and frequented by people with good purchasing power when it comes to vinyl. Obviously in terms of outfits a place like...

Dubstep-related artists also have a readymade infrastructure of upmarket club nights, people who promote their releases, and a sympathetic audience comprised of a high proportion of comparatively high-spending vinyl-purchasers (comparatively! I'm not saying dubstep fans are wealthy or...

Tom, these profiles are all really interesting and I'm looking forward to listening to a lot of the mixes (downloading Mosca now) but... What would it take for FACT to do this kind of thing for artists outside the Night Slugs / Hyperdub spheres? I mean this earnestly and practically rather...

If you can find it, the Rinse FM set that Fantastic 4 (Ill Blu / D-Malice / Scratcha DVA / Roska) recorded circa May contained almost everything Ill Blu had done up to that point.

You can buy "Time To Get Nasty" and their Shystie remix of off http://www.ukfunky.com/ You can buy "Blu Magic" and many of their remixes off www.junodownload.com - the key one to get being their remix of 321's "Bring It Back". Their remix of Suncycle ft Mavado is also available for free on...

If you like "No Closure" you'll probably like the rest of that album, though I think both Low Birth Weight and The Troubled Sleep Of... are better. Apparently The Paradise Motel have a new album on the way, 12 years after their last one!

The Paradise Motel were great, I'd search basically everything they ever did. If you like them I'd recommend Piano Magic (esp. 'Bliss Out', 'Low Birth Weight', 'Artists' Rifles' and 'The Troubled Sleep Of...'), and Earwig/Insides (different sound but similar vibe at times I feel)

Yeah "Kiss Me There"is by Screama and some other dude I forget right now. They called themselves Urban Nerds, but didn't realise there was already a group with this title - hence the confusion. My favourite bit of Majestic's safe sex rhyme is when he goes "This silly billy got a case of chlamiddy!"

My Ill Blu discography is incomplete! Several further tracks I have since discovered: Ill Blu - Money & Girls MJ Cole - Gotta Have It (Ill Blu Remix) Suncycle ft. Mavado - No More (Ill Blu Remix) - though this seems to be a fleshed out vocal version of "Dragon Pop" Steve Hoang - No Coming Back...

Re Funkystepz, I'm not quite sure what to think of the really bassy track that ends Rinse10 - strikes me as a bit of a funky equivalent of breakbeat garage. OTOH I heard another new track from them recently that was absolutely smashing so I'm not terribly worried. (and I quite like that...
