Cooking tips and wonderful flavour combinations

4 hours sounds fine to me. filtering through muslin is good. i think yeah you need lots of bones - with some bones you roast them before doing the stock as this maximises it apparently. bay, onions, carrot, celery. i've made a nice spiced noodle broth with duck - noodles, veg, soy, sesame oil...

    cocktails

i've been recently getting into them a bit, i mean i love beer, ale would be my desert island drink but sometimes you do want something a bit different. bloody marys are absolutely brilliant when done properly and don't need a big investment Manhattans are nice and not too complex - 5 parts...

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

not full on magic realism but little splashes of things seeming deliberately off kilter, odd, dreamlike, hazy. Some of the acting was very stagey and not striving for realism. lots of lush details and textures. dominated by two characters who form an almost god/devil binary and seem to crop up...

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

The Rio in Dalston had a showing last Sunday...just a one off I'm afraid! I think we these long films you kind of need to see them in a cinema so you don't get distracted and wander off.. Did the BFI not have it at all?

Films you've seen recently and would unreservedly recommend:

films you've seen recently and would NOT recommend

overegging the pudding was key for me terrible scene at end breaking down and weeping the rain suicide attempt was trite - easy way to slap on some emotional weight without deserving it through narrative or character development despicably cheesy piano music. basically loads of stuff that...

    what are you reading now?

wikipedia said that all the spin offs were pretty terrible, bit of a shame but no unexpected. i have just finished the original trilogy and thought they were pretty great, the end of the third one is amazing, all this metaphysical type stuff and very anti-swashbuckling..cool.

    what are you reading now?

A wizard of earthsea - Ursula le Guin Cool 70s fantasy (i guess for both kids and adults) more about the responsibility wizards have to use thier power properly, inner darkness that lies within us, the naming of things names/realities etc than big fights etc.
