Villalobos was in the UK a week ago so I'm thinking this might have been recorded then. his calendar is on the Cocoon Bookings website, which you need a password to see, irritatingly.

dunno if you can characterise Villalobos DJ sets really. he changes style dramatically from year to year and event to event... obviously on NYE he's going to play a more extraverted set. at Fabric a week or so ago he played (in the main) a fairly introverted, heavily rhythmic minimal tech set...

some favourites so far this year... Tony Allen - Ole (Moritz von Oswald remix). perfection from an unsurprising source, a relaxed 10+ minute 'organic' house track... very Rhythm and Sound-esque but it's more uplifting (by virtue of some beautiful chords which rise in the mix every so often)...

the sell prices in here were fairly decent for non-wall stock I thought. definitely superior to eg Vinyl Exchange in Manchester.

been really liking The Goslings for a while now... finally picked up the vinyl reissue of Between the Dead. a way more interesting spin on MBV than say Pluramon. these Stylus reviews say it way better than i have the energy to do right now, but check em out.

yeah i was about to say, a minimal discussion re swing without mentioning melchior is pretty nuts. his soul capsule productions are especially key.

yeah I hope this has been touched up since the version in the Fabric mix. that sounded half-finished and a little uninspired once FZ finished (although very obviously a Villalobos remix of it from the off).

Fabric post 4.30AM is a totally different club. all the Bazzas and Shazzas clear out and there's a lot of room on the main dancefloor. if you notice, everytime Luciano or Villalobos plays they extend closing from 7 to 8.30/9.30 -- they don't go on until 4.30 AM at the very earliest. buy a ticket...
