    grime/crunk/jungle/ragga/ghettotech etc in NYC

i have other commitments this friday, but i noticed the posting on blissblog for same event this past weekend there's definitely an audience for that mix of music, especially in these parts (dissensus), and rocky's is a good venue for it in my opinion and you've got a good roster of djs

The realisation that you don't really like house music much any more...

b/c we're talking about the general rather than the particular? and therefore talking more from the position of punters than knowledgeable critics?

The realisation that you don't really like house music much any more...

if by "house" you mean 4-to-the-floor, then yeah i'm sick of it too but you see "house" is a feeling! -- ha ha -- not a rhythmic formula i think that unless a dj is pushing things ahead in a serious way, as with grime djs now and certainly people like grooverider back in the early 90s, such...

The realisation that you don't really like house music much any more...

i think i may stand corrected, given what you say below! it's really the more obvious appropriations of the 82/83/84 sound that i'm bored with and never much cared for = legowelt, ghostly international, etc i'm all for surreal lyrics!!! i think you make an interesting point here -- i.e...

The realisation that you don't really like house music much any more...

yeah, i think the electro thing is played out at this point early 80s references, italo/electro, coldness, distance, irony -- all done for still think there's room, however, to reinvestigate the "disco not disco" end of the early 80s -- i.e., polyrhythms combined with sampladelic quirkiness...

The realisation that you don't really like house music much any more...

what about broken beats and nu jazz stuff? i.e., not delivered in a downbeat fashion but rather pitched up to +6 or +8 femi kuti, p'taah, some naked music, 4hero, john beltram, etc i don't play or buy this stuff, but a good friend of mine does -- i'm starting to see the appeal, think it...

    k-punk on terror

what term would you suggest? and despite the injustice and oppression that african-americans have faced and continue to face, they see themselves as "belonging" to american society in ways that SE asians don't see themselves as belonging to britain save for the black panthers in the late...

    k-punk on terror

i wasn't suggesting that the ny times undertook a "structural" analysis of the mindset of the bombers merely said that the findings of the article were consistent w/ k-punk's take

    Classic Mix Compilations

on a conciliatory note . . . . i'll endorse these mixes off the "hardcore will never die" site all from 1992 -- the simon bassline smith mix grooverider at universe (2-sided mix) carl cox at amnesia house (2-sided mix)

    Classic Mix Compilations

again, i don't think the question turns on whether the dj is "reacting your mood or needs" he might just as well adhere to a plan == play certain records in a prescribed order what matters, rather, is the total situation -- the music, the crowd, the vibe, the energy in the room, etc the...

    Classic Mix Compilations

you guys forget that "live" mixes typically have emcee chatter over the top, plus sometimesr the crowd is audible, and all the stops and pauses for popular uproar, etc and the poorer sound quality -- as a grainy tape has been converted to mp3 so you can indeed tell the difference b/w a "live"...
