Constantly optimizing the optimization process itself. There is always a higher metastatistic to optimize, etc.

And the constant raising of standards is what I think is at play through us, and expressed into capitalism.

Constantly raising my standards. Fueling the fantasy ("Could be the greatest mind of all time" etc), but also utilizing the pressure of a reality that says otherwise ("Well you better figure it out, otherwise you're delusional" etc).

Rather than a system that is effectively just optimized by its environment.
