The Top 100 Cult Films Of The Internet Age (1996-) As compiled by Dart Adams

Looks like a list of films you like, though there's nothing wrong with that The word "cult" when applied to film has become completely meaningless. It once meant a disregarded film that slowly accrued an audience/ reputation below the cultural radar. Here, as usual, it appears to mean slightly...

Whats it like on the outside looking in?

I was in America for a while 96-7 and i went to some warehouse parties etc in the bay area, and it was not in the least a gay scene. in fact it was pretty "urban" and quite sketchy...funny mix of people... however it was also NOTHING like anything that went on in england people were BREAKDANCING.

    bassline house

*typing* about *dance* music is always a strange situation :slanted: the problem is everything is so accessible online people are quick to give things a quick listen *just* so they can form an opinion, especially something presented as "new". lot of armchair ravers ;) scenes obviously make a...

    Funky/London/UK House

uk garage similarly developed out of a scene that initially had few domestic productions though i'm making no claims the gap between some of the better london "funky house" and something like "left leg out" isn't so huge. some of the better dubstep around at the moment is heading towards...

    Funky/London/UK House

To clarify- i meant that most sets i've heard are largely composed of tunes from outside the london scene. the audience for the music is only just getting involved in producing, and a few of the things i've heard sound pretty distinctive. we all know the house blueprint has ALREADY been taken in...

    Funky/London/UK House

This is a bit of a "girls back to the dancefloor" move so don't expect too much just yet ;) It's not "head music" part of the point is having a different context in which big club house tunes can be played in terms of tunes being made, the sound is embryonic Supa D seems to be the genre...

    bassline house

Blackmarket and Rhythm Division are selling some bassline. Online, HTFR, UKrecordshop, Studiobeatz- this stuff isn't too hard to get hold of, though finding a "way in" could be harder...

    Funky/London/UK House

It's not a fully defined standalone thing as yet as i understand it- allowing djs space to play big crossover club shit like "At Night" or Fedde Le Grand (!)...and plenty of vocal stuff... but i think the direction Blackdown is talking about(?) would be represented by something like Apples Mr...

    music you've been enjoying lately

it was a huge generalisation! :D however electronic music (i don't mean "dance" music) is almost intrinsically "forward looking" and a certain seriousness comes with that...and i think there has been much more of a tendency to reference academia and early "incidental" electronics (library music...

    music you've been enjoying lately

Twenty euros for the happy dragon band lp was a score- ive seen it for ridiculous money. It's a great album! "That was about the time...that we lost our time" :D I think the cod reggae immediately kills it for some people... anyway...on a similar-ish note... JD Emmanuel- Wizards Funny for...

    bassline house

Ha, i was about to post that. there's some hilarious "basslines" on there Those arpeggios the producers favour remind me of the bridge of Del Shannon's "Runaway" :slanted: Big up yr mix as well continuum This stuff is fun which is refreshing(!) but i find the relentless hype a little...

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

For the most part, it's something you'd hear in a dance rather than on a record, and i guess that's the atmosphere sampling it is supposed to conjure, bit like the popular "air horn" sound on a fair few dubs tho

questions you are dying to ask but are too scared to b/c of music nerd cred?

It's a dub/dancehall thing, djs would construct little sound boxes with effects, and that sound is just an easily manufactured and distinctive one...i always think of it as more like a ray gun blast or somethin (gunshots being probably the second most popular sound effect) couldn't tell you...

    Burial "Untrue"

The zingers are flying here, but I don't think people are so much interested in Burial's individual identity as the veracity of the story as told. Given the emotional content of the music the (anti) context provided has undoubtedly come to inform it in the ears of most listeners. Jandek pre 2004...

    Burial "Untrue"

Shutta has come out already- it's on the Ghost Hardware EP An upcoming EP rounds up a fair amount of the rest Would have liked "Cold Planet" to have made the cut Can't we at least give him some credit for aiming for the classical ideal of "beauty"? :D Not too many trying after all... I...

can we have a ysi thread

I can certainly agree with this! however..: Ligeti openly *acknowledged* this, just as Reich did Ghanaian music, Cage gamelan,Young and Glass indian music,,, Techno pioneers on the other hand tend to *acknowledge* the influence of synth pop, kraftwerk etc rather than any traditional musics...
