@ rrrivero re edit 2 - Yeah, those groupings are about right. I'd also add the 808 electro/ghetto tech sound pushed by Boddika, Jon Convex, Addison Groove, Mickey Pearce etc.
Was gonna post that Tessela link. Slugger was great and I like D Jane quite a bit too even if it does sound like a more rigid Blawan (pre move to 4x4).
Hyph Mango is the Joy O trademark though - I'm pretty sure there wasn't much of or anything like it in the genre at the time - and the fact that it's been copied by about a 1000 different producers doesn't change that, even if he stopped making tracks that sound like it ages ago.
I think Maths...
The first track on this EP really hits the spot for me, and the faster than usual remix by Kowton is pretty great too:

I'm not going to go through an entire discography of music I don't like to prove a point, but here's one example:
Skip to 2:25. That's as textbook Joy O/post-dubstep as you can get without replacing the album cover with an "artistic" black and white photo of a cute but not overly sexualized...
True, but I don't think either of us were going for accuracy. We were just exchanging blanket criticisms of things we don't like. It's not like all of Disclosure's relatively small output sounds like Joy Orbison either.
@ jimitheexplorer - I don't care for George Fitz/Sepalcure/Jacques Greene...
That track you linked to is awful by the way, but it sounds more like it's from the James Blake/Mount Kimbie school of generic "post-dubstep" than the Joy Orbison one.
Yeah, Damu is terrible though. I mean, I get not liking Disclosure, but to bring up Damu as some sort of great alternative is bizarre to me when the exact same criticism could be applied to a guy who sounds like Joy Orbison twee'ified by 60 percent.
Speaking of Lana Del Ray (shouldn't this thread just be titled Lana Del Ray?) and versions of Video Games, anyone seen this? Skip to the 40 sec mark:
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value=""><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param...
This EP was a pleasant surprise. Uses a lot of familiar sounds/tropes, but it's just done so well. I prefer the B side though - it's got sort of a Todd Edwards vibe and I can't resist that.
Like this one quite a bit too:
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie"...
House edit of a hip-hop track most of you will be familiar with:
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value=""><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"...
This really depends on what your definition of "textbook post dubstep" is - to me it would be someone like Sepalcure, and while this does have some of those signifiers, it's moodier (without being "romantic" or "downcast"), sparser and has more weight to it. The only thing that brings this track...
Yeah, whenever I find the rare good or even decent one for an electronic track I like, I download it. There was this guy on youtube called the29novfilms who made some pretty neat videos (mostly techno with the occasional dubstep/uk funky one), but I just looked him up and his account's been...
Both tracks on the newish XI EP on Orca are pretty good. The free EP he gave out for xmas isn't bad either. Usually not a fan of his melodies but this stuff is sparser and the drum and bass programming is excellent. Think he could pull off the 808/Swamp81 sound really well if he wanted to...
