Obviously there was massive tactical voting, but that kind of scale is extraordinary. Labour got just 622 votes. Those are Screaming Lord Sutch kind of numbers. The average CLP membership is bigger than that (or was). Well, we'll see how they get on in Batley and Spen.

    barty's guide to the post-punks

Certainly on their recordings. Joy Division live were much more of a full on rock band. Whereas Section 25 were more stripped back, sort of avant-punk: pounding drums, rudimentary basslines, out of tune shout singing, and noise and distortion from the guitar. Try this... (y)

Perhaps "make me instantly think of Martin Hannett" would be more apposite there?

Psychedelic Shack is great. So are all the subsequent albums with Norman Whitfield (except Sky's The Limit perhaps). I have all those separately – but I recently discovered that all the killer tracks are on a double CD compilation, Psychedelic Soul, which I have just got and am now listening to...

How many times have we seen centrists actively campaigning against Labour over the previous four years? Leaving aside the fact that this obviously made Tory victories (even) more likely, does this convict them of being "right-wing"? Absolutely it does. They clearly preferred a right-wing Tory...

    Where to now?

Absolutely agree. Corbyn did know this btw – a lot of his young support came via the direct action route – but it wasn't enough. Not when he got bogged down in Brexit and generally being the most awful person in the world ever. As for Starmer, almost the first thing he did was shut down the...

Four-months-on resolution: to never think about nor vote for the Labour Party again – at least not until Keith and his useless bunch of sub-Tory fuckwits have left the building 😑
