The Republican War on Transgender People, Drag Queens, and Queerness in General

    1) Trans identity isn't reducible to those concerns 2) Even if it was, you still can't deny that the Republican party and all of the worse people in the fucking world are using these and other arguments to cynically whip up anti-trans hysteria. What will the likely outcomes of this be, do you...

The Republican War on Transgender People, Drag Queens, and Queerness in General

The taboo against incest has arisen as a collective strategy for management of these potential problems. Jon Haidt has written persuasively on this.

This stuff has been going on since the party started. Attlee was chucking communists out of the party and trying to stop them taking over a hundred years ago. Militant tried to take over in the 80s. Kinnock gave that famous speech: “I’ll tell you what happens with impossible promises. You...

Just to rewind a second, before we all start insulting each other under the guise of amateur psychoanalysis 'cos we don't agree politically, I was answering a post of Rich's, about why Starmer gets so much hate. I stand by what I said, it's primarily to do with him defeating another faction in...

Actually what happened to me is pretty simple - I got interested in foreign policy and events in Syria and realised Corbyn was a racist moral vacuum and not suitable to be PM. His reaction was the Skirpal and recent takes on Ukraine confirm that view. Amazed not-amazed that badly fucking up...

IIRC you backed out of the thread, realising it was a cunt move. Your last post was something like "apologies I've got a disease".

Yeah and others like Whithome. Always thought he had a brain. Corbyn is the Christ-like figure without moral taint who was the big draw though.

Could add losing any moral high ground re. Foreign policy with his statements about not arming Ukraine.

That's the game you have to play to get elected. The boats thing is fucking foul but Starmer et al not as bad as the Tories

No, they hate 'cos they've lost. Lost the party, lost in court to the EHRC, lost any influence, lost an election. They need someone to pin it on.

To answer Rich's point as clearly as possibly - the Left hate him because hate is easy, and they enjoy it. They also know that he's shut the Left out of any influence in Parliamentary politics for the next decade, a trend which will only be accentuated if he becomes PM. The only route for a...

To answer Rich's point a bit I don't really listen to most critiques of Starmer coming from the Left 'cos it's all so hysterical. Shame because I'm sure there are some valid points there but you can't make them out for all the denouncements of him for eating babies.

I watched the first 10 seconds of that video and they were showing a video of Starmer talking about making the case for Free Movement (not sure when, long before he was leader, I assume). The Tories have yesterday put forwards the most shitty, evil piece of legislation imaginable pretty much...

Totally insane bullshit. Getting elected is actually hard, and requires talking shit unfortunately. I mean the Right so obviously wants to paint him as "lefty lawyer Starmer" why give them that ammo? They hate him 'cos he's fucked the Left of the party completely. Its remarkable how much he's...

The Republican War on Transgender People, Drag Queens, and Queerness in General

The cynical deployment of hatred and fear It reminds me of the way the Tories are using refugees. Thus stuff seems to have less hold in the UK due I'd guess to the lack of a strong evangelical base. There have been a few anti drag protests but they've been easily swamped by counter-protesters...

The Republican War on Transgender People, Drag Queens, and Queerness in General

Thanks for starting the thread. Agreed its horrific. It reminds me of Reich's "emotional plague" in that its apparently driven by an absolute terror of sexuality, made *even worse* by it being queer, non-gender conforming sexuality.
