It feels like liberals (at least in the US) are in this undead state. All the life, energy, youth, and new ideas have drained out of them, maybe wasted on moral outrages over transgender bathroom rights and other unsubstative clickbait "issues." Everyone freaking out over Donald Sterling's senile ramblings about "those... people" (blacks with big black dicks) a few years ago just seems sad in hindsight. AOC is already overexposed, not even 30 years old, can't even run for president for five more years (two election cycles) and by then everyone will be sick of her. So where will the fresh blood and new ideas come from? Conservatives adapted successfully by embracing analytics and viral meme culture, and Trump's puppet masters understood how to communicate in the post-authorial, post-monovocal era where everyone just wants to lose themselves in the mob and the noise. Speaking of losing, why isn't there a single peripheral candidate coming from the left for 2020? Forget anti-establishment, which is still what people want, I just mean someone outside the political sphere. Maybe an entertainer (Jon Stewart or George Clooney for VP?), or a tech entrepreneur who maybe leans a bit libertarian? They had four years to adapt and it's like they got stuck up their own asses with identity politics and didn't learn a goddamn thing.
