I very much agree with this, and it's more to do with the attitude to the game we have in England than it is the talents of the players. Like I said a few pages back, with fifteen minutes to do we did nothing but take the ball and smack it in the general direction of the Croatia box, and the commentators were encouraging it! As if that's likely to get you a goal against a patient, well organised international team.It is less intense and predicated on patience, movement and creativity.
The crowd chanting 'attack attack attack' given half the chance and booing backpasses just sums up the whole backwards attitude. Half the football 'experts' over here didn't acknowledge the value of holding midfielders until Makelele joined Chelsea, for God's sake...
