nice one corpsey, this is the first ever wobbler that I can think of.. which makes me wonder what would be considered 'proto-wobble'.. coki? pinch even?

but not limited to dubstep... e.g. 00s dnb had a wobble phase.

trying to think of a jungle antecedent...

In DNB 'wobble' seems to be more a term to refer to jump-up, especially cheesy/cheeky stuff. Doesn't seem to refer to the LFO bass most of the time.

Yeah I like Rubber Chicken to be honest. Wobble became unbearable for me when it started sounding like heavy metal.

I actually quite like this one now though. Hearing Badness/P Money etc. over it did the trick.

If Rubber Chicken is wobble then this must be too.

"march of the funkless, farting robots" was how i put it when fabric insisted on sending the caspa & rusko mix cd for review. got some lovely hate mail for that.

the churny stuff always makes me think of a can opener symphony.

i kinda see wobble, being reliant on this LFO-modulated filtered bass sound, as being all about the overtones. it goes from just sub, so its almost like just being faded in and out and not really wobble (ealy dmz/coki stuff), to this serrated distorted mettallic sound, the current floor fillers, like this one

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

where its still relatively clean, albeit harsh and grating. then comes the stuff that empahsises the "disgusting" element of dubstep, which is really throaty, less metallic, and sound somewhere between a tuba and an actual pig. this is a good example

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

...where next for the sound?

had to be one of the maddest ones out there...

awwnein, I'm not sure if your distinction is 100% accurate, but I definitely do feel there is a difference between C&R Fabriclive37 and the stuff that's out there now. FB37 was actually pretty interesting at the time (as someone getting into the sound)-- the same definitely can't be said for what's passing as wobble nowadays. I think the difference you're trying to parse honestly has more to do with good vs bad production skills...

half the new stuff isnt even really wobble, its more tear out dubstep. tracks like coki's goblin are like some sort of peak for it, goblin is like tear out taken to the extreme.

When people speak of 'wobble' pejoratively they tend to mean the more abrasive higher frequency stuff don't they?

These wobble, but wouldn't generally be referred to as wobble, right?

Heck, even this doesn't usually get dismissed as being 'wobble'.
