Absolutely - although they were slightly better than Uruguay. Hope there aren't too many games like that one.
The Henry thing - my friend works for the Guardian and overhears stuff from the sports desk - sometimes he's first with the sports news, sometimes it's not true. Anyone who saw that performance could be certain that Henry hadn't taken any performance enhancing drugs.

i liked commentator J Champion's aside on the UK telly at HT here as they trooped off and he said something like South Korea have given us an entertaining 45 mins, whereas 'i'll let you know when the Greeks start their World Cup campaign'

Looks like he'll have to hand that particular baton on to the commentator of their next game.

So far the two 'can't be arsed, do we really have to do this?' teams have been the two European ones.

Shit or ace, I trust Capello will at least ensure we try.

according to the kind of stat anorak who puts our own DQ to shame, Greece have now played four WC games against teams from four different continents and lost them all without scoriing a single goal

since two of those four teams are Argentina and Nigeria, here's to Lap 2...

they're clearly watching a different game to me, at one point they said something like "it's all being played in nigeria's half" what the hell?

Clive T on ITV. now there's a commentator i can't stand.

mind, the last WC i was in the USA and started off w English-lang commentary channels, but just always ended up switching to Spanish-lang channels if poss cuz the English-lang was that dire, on the whole.

(pedantic note: i didn't want to just mute it as i like hearing the crowd etc.)

my but Diego's a stylish bastard! in a sort of barking latin American autocrat way.

they're all dreadful. jonathan pearce just can't do television commentary, he talks too much. barry davies knew how to do tv commentary. he barely said a word.

Conclusions so far - vuvuzelas aren't as annoying as I thought they would be, Uruguay are much better at getting hold of the ball than they are at hanging on to it and Enyeama looks to be a decent keeper

ITV HD decided to play an advert rather than show the game just as the first goal was scored.

The ITV commentator is an idiot.

The first half was like a whole England world cup campaign reduced to 45 minutes.

England look scared of the ball in a way Argentina did not.


Otherwise, Messi is a bit tasty isn't he? Glad I picked him for my FF team.

Can someone explain to me the legality of confiscating football hooligans passports for the duration of the World Cup? I don't really understand it. Britain really seems to have a thing for punishing people for crimes that haven't yet happened.
